Anyone waiting on completion?

Hi All, I put an offer towards a house back in February, it was a brand new start for myself and my young son after splitting with my husband l, but because of covid 19 everything was delayed and im still waiting on a completion date, despite chasing solicitors every day. I’ve made them aware I need to move in ASAP and am in touch with the sellers who are equally as keen to move. I’m getting very stressed about it all, anyone in the same boat ?

What a nightmare @Itscoldouthere hope that doesn't drag on too much longer for you.

Fingers crossed for everyone

GherkinsOnToast · 23/06/2020 10:44

Well, the sellers have their contracts to sign and return. DH went to measure up some things with a builder today and their solicitor has requested they scan and send back the relevant pages today and then post the rest back to arrive tomorrow. Only issue is they are elderly and can barely use a mobile never mind scan things. DH wants to offer to help scan and help them email the pages back but doesn't want to seem to be interfering by their solicitors. We just want to exchange!

Any idea how long from receiving contracts back it is to actual exchange?

Unsureofthescore113 · 23/06/2020 11:30

Sorry to hear Larry duff and it’s cold out there, sounds like we are in a similar boat! Despite chasing I’ve been told the solicitors are still waiting on answers to questions... the deadline is Thursday and this could all fall through if they aren’t returned by then. I’m losing sleep over it!

@GherkinsOnToast well we sent our signed contracts back over a week ago, last Friday my estate agents said it would take a least 3 days for the bank to ‘draw down funds’ whatever that is? So we are hoping for Thursday/Friday this week.

GherkinsOnToast · 23/06/2020 13:23

Its @Itscoldouthere thanks - the sellers rand DH and said they have decided to take the signed contracts and hand deliver them to their solicitor who is about an hour away. The are so desperate to move to their new seaside home and are truly frustrated with how slow he is moving!

Itscoldouthere · 23/06/2020 16:43

Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻 @GherkinsOnToast

Ellie2201 happy completion day :-) I hope I get there soon. More enquiries not been answered, the deadline is tomorrow otherwise it’ll fall through, Tick tock tick tock :-(

Thank you so much! Good luck for today. Flowers

Unsureofthescore113 · 29/06/2020 08:21

How’s everyone getting on? I’ve still not exchanged, am hoping it’ll be this week :-(

Same here, still not exchanged. Ours is a two stage exchange too due to a charge on our buyers house. They were expected to exchange Friday or yesterday, so hopefully today. Rest of exchange will be a week or so later.

Unsureofthescore113 · 30/06/2020 11:43

Sorry to hear that fern. I am in the same boat. No one can give me any answers and it’s getting me down.

Ugh. Yes - I'm in this boat too. Exchanged, but waiting on completion. It's a new build so understand why it's delayed. Just annoying waiting so long!

Anyone else waiting on a new build?

Itscoldouthere · 30/06/2020 17:45

We were hoping to exchange today but they are now saying Friday. So frustrating!
Still planning to complete end of July but I don’t want to book the storage till we’ve exchanged.
Trying very hard to not let it get to me...

Unsureofthescore113 · 01/07/2020 04:59

It’s coldoutthere, gah I feel the exact same :-( I’ve lost so much sleep over it, what is it you’re waiting for before you exchange?

OP posts:
Unsureofthescore113 · 02/07/2020 07:41

STILL NOT EXCHANGED!!! I am absolutely going out of my mind, can’t eat, can’t sleep, cant function. This should have happened weeks ago but stupid solicitors who can’t be bothered to talk to each other have delayed things unnecessarily. It’s now been 6 months of no chain and NO END IN SIGHT! :’-(

Itscoldouthere · 02/07/2020 12:05

@Unsureofthescore113 have you found out why? What’s going on?

We won’t exchange today but really hoping for tomorrow, my lawyer is cross because the buyers lawyer has not been keeping her updated, I’ve had to forward info from my estate agent. He seems to have forgotten it’s a 2 sided process and is only interested in his clients. Very annoying!

GherkinsOnToast · 02/07/2020 18:39

Guess what???? No exchange here! We were told Monday then Wednesday but our solicitor has heard nothing at all. Sellers say their solicitor wants exchange and completion on same day next week but hasn't told our solicitor and we need 3-5 days to draw down our mortgage. It is now 16 weeks since we instructed our solicitor!

Itscoldouthere · 03/07/2020 16:41

We’ve exchanged 😊

Large glass of wine for me tonight 🍷

I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen.
Now the proper packing can begin !

Simonsaysitschristmas · 03/07/2020 17:03

Congratulations @Itscoldouthere when are you aiming to complete? Enjoy the wine Wine

Itscoldouthere · 03/07/2020 18:01

@Simonsaysitschristmas
Complete on 31st July so we’ve got a few weeks to pack.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 03/07/2020 18:06

Oh that’s a nice amount of time to get sorted, means you don’t have to start straight away and can spend tonight enjoying your wine Grin

Itscoldouthere · 03/07/2020 18:42

@Simonsaysitschristmas and now a take away curry 😊
First time since lockdown.... yes !

Simonsaysitschristmas · 03/07/2020 19:13

My perfect evening @Itscoldouthere, enjoy!

Unsureofthescore113 · 04/07/2020 06:14

Hi all, lovely to hear you’ve exchanged itscoldoutthere - massive congratulations 😊

I’m actually pulling out of the sale believe it or not. 6 months of no chain and still haven’t got a completion date. I’ve finally had enough. If it takes this long to buy, it’ll take even longer to sell which is my long term plan, as I’d imagine the leasehold will throw up the same problems in the future. Now looking at freeholds and / or rentals and feel like a massive weight has been taken off of my shoulders. Good luck to everyone still going through the process, but for the sake of my mental health, I give up.

@Unsureofthescore113 sorry to hear that it’s come to pulling out, but I do think all this time has given everyone so much time to think and reflect on if they are doing the right thing.
Usually house sales are pretty quick (in the scale of life things) and really we all rush into it and although we often have doubts the momentum grows and before you know it you have bought a new house!
When we bought our house it was a complete refurbished house, I spent the first three months feeling sick and cried quite often. I think if we’d had more time to think we would have walked away but it all just happened and our life was completely changed.
I don’t regret it but I do think we didn’t really think about what we were actually taking on, we go swept up in the vision of what we could make the house end up like, on a cold snowy February with nothing working properly it didn’t feel so good !
Anyway good luck with whatever you decide to do now.
