Units online / second nature kitchens

Hi All
I'm favouring second nature kitchens, in particular the lovely mornington beaded shaker and I've had quotes from lots of online stores but I'm steering towards units online and was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on either the kitchen or the seller please, I'm so scared of something going wrong, it's so much money! Thanks in advance x

@Mixmag brilliant - thank you for sharing :) kitchen looks great

Sweetmelody72 · 02/03/2020 20:02

I used a designer in this way for a kitchen in a previous house and it worked really well for us. New house and considering whether to use the same approach although paying an architect a packet so not sure why I should need to Hmm. Unfortunately our lady no longer does this anymore.

@Mixmag can I ask the rough dimensions of your room, your island and your dining table? We are going from open plan living in a huge rectangle to a kitchen diner in a smaller square room, and I’m struggling to fit everything in...

Mixmag · 02/03/2020 20:07

@rosinavera isn't it gorgeous! Love the larder unit with the bifold doors 👌 No not yet I'm a while off, let me know who you decide to go with and how you get on 😊 x

@CMBC0320 you're very welcome, hope that helps you... If there's any fairly straightforward design dilemmas let us all know and we'll try and help you 😊

@Sweetmelody72 I feel your pain, fees are ridiculous! Well you know I'm going to suggest you try Karen @ One plan 😜 however we might be able to help you on here... Have you seen my plan on Houzz? So the dimensions are...
Extension is just over 5m out from the house and 6.7m across
The island is just over 3m...3040mm exactly with the two end panels
The table is roughly 85cm across and 170cm long but it extends further than this x

@Mixmag I will!! Let's keep on posting on this thread and updating. I know that DIY Kitchens couldn't do a unit size that you wanted but did you find much difference in price between DIY Kitchens and Units online? x

Mixmag · 02/03/2020 20:59

@rosinavera sounds good 👍 👍 👍 there's differences but it depends on unit types... Shaker mdf cheaper than solid wood then inframes more expensive again! I would love the clarendon by second nature... Diykitchens inframe helmsley is cheaper though and very popular however the solid wood fitzroy and mornington are cheaper, not by much though I think... Worth checking, just pick one unit to check say a 600mm 3 pan drawer pack and go on the different websites... Bear in mind units online website includes vat but diykitchens doesn't and they add it on the end. For anyone wanting to buy now I have a discount code for diykitchens... JANOFFER10 for 10% off x

Mixmag · 02/03/2020 21:05

@rosinavera
Just looked at 600mm 3 pan drawer pack...
287.82 fitzroy units online
298.30 mornington beaded units online
329.77 helmsley diykitchens (inframe)
There's not a lot in it tbh...

rosinavera · 02/03/2020 21:21

Oh thanks Mixmag - that's really kind of you!! x

rosinavera · 02/03/2020 21:36

@Mixmag - I think I'm being really dim - I can't seem to find the prices on Units online!!

Mixmag · 02/03/2020 21:42

@rosinavera are you looking on your phone? If so go to the website click on the three bars on the left, click kitchens, then shaker and scroll to fitzroy then you'll need to turn your phone on its side so the display is horizontal then there's the different unit types on the left hand side, it's a right pain! 😂 Xxx

rosinavera · 02/03/2020 21:49

No, I'm on my chromebook - I'll have another look! God this kitchen planning is soooooo time-consuming isn't it! xx

rosinavera · 02/03/2020 21:52

@Mixmag - I've found it!!! :-) xx

Mixmag · 02/03/2020 21:54

@rosinavera hehe yes it is! Don't get me started on handles and knobs! 😂 X

OP posts:
rosinavera · 02/03/2020 22:39

@Mixmag - take a look at Willow and Stone for handles and knobs if you haven't already come across it ;-) x

Sweetmelody72 · 02/03/2020 22:52

Blimey the Clarendon is £509 for the drawer unit compared to the Helmsley! I’ve really fallen in love with it though as it looks very similar to devol

Mixmag · 03/03/2020 05:48

@rosinavera thank you I will 😊 I think I'm pretty much sold on fingertip victorian cup handles by Carlisle Brass and then mushroom cupboard knobs by from the anvil.... Trying to achieve an armac Martin look for less! 😂 X

OP posts:
Mixmag · 03/03/2020 05:52

@Sweetmelody72 I know, shocking price difference! It is stunning though... The Hunton range is quite nice but nothing like the Clarendon. I do love an inframe. We used Second Nature's guide on how to achieve the inframe look buying cheaper units and as part of this you buy mornington beaded units plus clarendon moulded skirting to get the look but the skirting is mega money! So much so I'm thinking just ask kitchen fitter / joiner to buy standard skirting from say b&q and prime and paint yourself, there are so many hacks out there but it's all down ultimately to how good your kitchen fitter is x

Sweetmelody72 · 03/03/2020 07:20

Have you seen the Helmsley and the Clarendon in the flesh? I’m still at the desktop research stage so I haven’t yet.

I’ve seen they do dovetail drawer boxes Shock

Thanks ever so much for the dimensions. I am roughly 6m square so 70cm off your width so I need to work out if I need that for the dining table to fit

wehaveafloater · 03/03/2020 08:51

Another Karen at OnePlan fan here too. She just knows her stuff and isn't trying to sell you anything. So refreshing after dealing with sales hungry people .

Mixmag · 03/03/2020 09:16

@Sweetmelody72 I'm the same as you, haven't started our build yet, we've had 3 quotes 2 around 53k and 1 at 59k so currently getting more quotes! I was hoping mid to late 40s so this has come as a bit of a shock!
Clarendon would be out for me at that price point... Tbh if I was paying that I'd spend it on a solid wood kitchen from Pineland... Worth a look...
I think when I've appointed a builder and know exact costs I might venture to diykitchens in pontefract to look specifically at helmsley and Norton ranges but I am pretty happy with second nature mornington beaded, I've got a sample door and I've seen the kitchen first hand and it's lovely... I think having all this time is killing me and I keep changing my mind and thinking will I regret not getting an inframe! If I was getting dovetail drawer upgrade I'd just get it on the two top drawers next to the range cooker which will house utensils... You sometimes struggle to find a wooden cutlery insert though for these drawers so that's worth bearing in mind however you can ask joiner to plane the drawer insert down so it fits.
Are you on Instagram? I am... I'm @creatingmydreamspace if anyone wants to stay in touch... And for serious helmsley inspiration check out instagram.com/the_stokes_house?igshid=n0j7ed3yny92

@Sweetmelody72 BTW I think you'll be OK to squeeze a table in to that space... You could always buy a bench too to run along the wall side replacing chairs .. That would save some space and looks lovely x

It’s so annoying when pesky building costs get in the way of the interior design Grin
Now Pineland doesn’t sound great but they have some nice looking kitchens in their gallery. What do you know about them?
That’s a good tip about getting dovetail only where you can see it.
Am I on Instagram? I’m never off it! Although never post anything myself. I’m deliberating over whether I should track our project although I will follow yours with interest.

Mixmag · 03/03/2020 19:27

@Sweetmelody72 tell me about it 😭 terrible name but if you search insta for #pinelandkitchen you can see some examples of their inframe kitchen. Their service is second to none. I've had a quote from them and they hand drew all the kitchen pictures! If I had a spare 3 or 4k I'd definitely be getting my kitchen from them... Visible hinges, proper built up skirting, inframe kitchens with dovetail joints throughout 👌👌👌
Get in touch with them for a quote
You should definitely track your progress 😊 x

Did I read up thread they quoted you £9k for your plan or did I imagine that? Their doors seem to be very simple in style. I haven’t seen any with Clarendon-like beading for example. But I’ve trawled insta and they are really lovely. Thanks for the tip youve been so helpful!
