Hello! I live in a small barn in Somerset. The current name (The Old Barn) doesn't really work for us as it's too similar to the neighbour's (The Old Dairy). Another neighbour also is The Cow Shed. It's now just a converted agricultural building, with no specific features (and therefore no proper links), though apparently it used to be used as a milking parlour. Not sure I like "The Milking Parlour" and anything with "The Old..." or "Cow" isn't ideal due to neighbours. I'm thinking maybe "The Byre"? Really hoping one of you comes up with some genius idea as my creativity is lacking a bit! No names too ridiculous at this point! Thanks in advance x

How about La Finca or Hacienda, or The Bungalow.

The Covent Drey would be apt given your username

I suggested Shippon earlier - it's a word for a cow shed.

If you can make something amusing from your names, great, but tacky if it's just a jumble of letters. The company Neom was made up of initials.

The Squirrels would be nice.

Upton Lower Barn
Upton End Barn

The Byre sounds a bit twee to me.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/02/2020 15:57

Upton Grange sounds vair fancy

Could you re-jig to Old Barn House - taking out the 'The' means it's less like your neighbours. Or even Barn House - less like The Old Dairy too.

I think you also have to get approval from Royal Mail.

HeyPizza · 04/02/2020 17:56

Or Ye Old Breezy Barn ... lol

Do you have a specific type of tree or bush that happens to be noticeable in your front or back garden?

Is the conversion made of anything unusual or specific - a type of stone maybe?

Is it little or big?

For example -

Little Slate Barn
Big Stone Barn
Little Oak Barn
Holly Tree Barn
Cedar Barn

wowfudge · 04/02/2020 21:01

It's the council you have to register an address with. They then tell Royal Mail.

PlumsGalore · 04/02/2020 21:23

If you live in a converted barn, what wrong with the name? If not what do you live in? Sounds all a bit pretentious to me.

Wagsandclaws · 04/02/2020 21:39

OP we bought a barn conversion in Somerset a few months ago. It used to be literally the old dairy on the farm.

Our four neighbours are barn this and barn that so we called it Foxes Hollow, registered it with the council who then told Royal Mail .

We could have called for 'The old Dairy' I suppose but there are so many 'old dairys' the old post office Ect that I wanted something a bit different.

Good luck with choosing your house name, I loved being able to do that as we've always really had numbered properties before now but no numbers here as we are quite rural.

mathanxiety · 05/02/2020 06:38

Go for irony and stick with 'Converted Agricultural Building'.

Hathor House (as in Hathor, the Eygpian godess of the sky, women and fertility).

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 05/02/2020 15:30

Hathor had the form of a cow ... I just realised that the connection might not be clear!
