Hello! I live in a small barn in Somerset. The current name (The Old Barn) doesn't really work for us as it's too similar to the neighbour's (The Old Dairy). Another neighbour also is The Cow Shed. It's now just a converted agricultural building, with no specific features (and therefore no proper links), though apparently it used to be used as a milking parlour. Not sure I like "The Milking Parlour" and anything with "The Old..." or "Cow" isn't ideal due to neighbours. I'm thinking maybe "The Byre"? Really hoping one of you comes up with some genius idea as my creativity is lacking a bit! No names too ridiculous at this point! Thanks in advance x

The Shire?

kenandbarbie · 05/02/2020 15:46

Why not just drop old and have 'the barn'. Not twee and not confusing.

AdaColeman · 05/02/2020 15:48

Wildfell House

Windy Hights

Arcadia

Or plant some trees ~ The Rowans, High Hedges, Rose Cottage etc
Or use a paint brush ~ Green Gables, The Red Barn,

on top of a big hill, so windy... and good views over countryside, with lots of sheep! No trees, just fields and hedges!

High Field Barn, or Highfield Barn.

Can't believe no one has suggested Barny McBarnface yet.

You can't call a building 'the shire' or 'hayloft' if it wasn't a shire or a hayloft - that's just ridiculous!

Because it's situated in a windy place, you could use a local name for wind?
In Northumberland, there's a beautiful, wild place called BlaWearie - eg. 'blow wearily'. ...You could have your own equivelent of 'Blawearie Barn'

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 05/02/2020 21:04

Or if you know what tyle of cattle they used to have, you could name it after the breed?

(eg. Friesian Barn/Guernsey Barn/Jersey Barn)

From the way you've described the location I rather like Blustery Barn. It sounds like the setting for an Enid Blyton adventure!

veryhairylegs · 05/02/2020 22:24

Upton Parlour?

MaJoady · 05/02/2020 22:52

I like @MacavityTheDentistsCat's suggestion of Hathor, but to avoid alliteration I'd probably go with Hathor Barn. Different to your neighbours, but still easy to spell and understand and keeps the link to it's old use

I am not too far from you so giving you a wave, but cannot find the emoji thing!

Given the views full of sheep, how about 'Woolgathering' or 'Woolgathering Barn' as in "his wits have gone woolgathering", meaning one who is a little gaga.

Or, given its previous incarnation as a milking parlour, how about 'Titpullin'?

Or something related to the natural world like 'Peewit Rise', 'Badgers Mount', 'Otters Holt' etc.

Sheepside?! Grin
Belle end has made me giggle.

AdaColeman · 06/02/2020 12:14

High Croft Cottage
Or something based on the size or names of nearby fields such as Three Acre Cottage, Long Meadow Barn.
