I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/63574254

Check out this stunner. Starts off pretty special, heavy on the wood but wait til picture 11 and 12. Was not expecting that. Also check out the floorplan. Upstairs is rather unusual but now I might say I'm quite tempted to fiddle around with the floorplan in my own home to incorporate a room in like that upstairs!!!

I too would love to know the owner's story. I also notice that it looks like they used the paving slabs in the back garden as a chess board. Those high up kitchen units look like 1930's sideboards stuck to the ceiling. God knows how they're suspended, must weigh a ton. & that bed's something special too. I suspect the whole house will breath a sigh of relief when that lot gets taken out.. How on earth did they get all those stained glass windows to hang like that in the bar? Must have cost someone a lot of money. This is the best/worst house I've ever seen on MN.

I’m a Londoner so I’m used to these prices but even I’m horrified

I wonder how much it will actually go for?

brotown · 10/07/2019 19:47

That’s quite spectacular

brotown · 10/07/2019 19:47

And very strange

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2019 20:04

Clearly thr bar is more than a bar, all the many fire surrounds and clocks lined up against the walls. It's been used as storage of some form. Maybe an antiques dealer. And it was rented out as a house share, so no need for a living room. Hence why all the rooms are bedrooms, and are poorly furnished.

I'm guessing the bar is very old. Was used once upon a time as a sort of private drinking club for a certain group of people. And it evolved to just storage space and the rooms all rented out as bedrooms.

Maybe the owner died or went into care.

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2019 20:18

Actually that magnolia room is at thr back of thr bar. If you look at thr floor plans there is a room there but no mention of what it is, I think it's thr magnolia room.

And the master room with thr funky bed has a big lock on the door. Thr bar has a lot of sound systems in it,

Whatever that house was used for it wasn't your normal family home.

georgialondon · 10/07/2019 20:22

@BarryBarryTaylor not really. Victoria park side is not but here off chatsworth road.

BarryBarryTaylor · 10/07/2019 20:30

georgialondon are you kidding??? It’s so hipster, middle class off chatsworth road! You pay £2.99 for some humous and £4.99 for bread so that’s definitely hipster in my book.
I know there aren’t the old Georgian houses that you find near Victoria park and there are more lower income families based around chatsworth road in the old estates, but there are also the organic shops, expensive pizza restaurants, trendy Jim’s cafe, it’s very gentrified down chatsworth road now.

rockingchaircandle · 10/07/2019 20:32

It's cool! No need to sneer - good to see some individuality instead of identikit instagram decor!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/07/2019 20:33

The magnolia room is an extension. It’s interesting.

Amiable · 10/07/2019 20:37

I LOVE that bed! I imagine you'd feel like the Princess and the Pea! Also love the stained glass. That bathroom is "special" isn't it! Overall I give it a ShockShockGrinGrinConfusedGrinGrinShock

Badabingbadabum · 11/07/2019 06:45

I found this one really unsettling!

madeyemoodysmum · 11/07/2019 06:55

Is it stained glass? I’d assumed the wallpapered the ceiling

Solasum · 11/07/2019 07:09

I suspect the magnolia is a recent addition to cover something up?

HisBetterHalf · 11/07/2019 07:55

Loving the bathroom sink that perfectly matches the wall tiles

Bluntness100 · 11/07/2019 09:08

If you look at the floor plan, and count thr rooms, it seems the magnolia room is just off thr bar, at the back of it.

God knows what the house was used for.

Binglebong · 11/07/2019 15:20

Just noticed the extension has a flat room. So it may be the stained glass shoes actually let light through, which would explain why the bar is upstairs.

The front window is interesting, very different from the others in the street.

RhubarbTea · 12/07/2019 12:32

FUCK. ME.

Genuinely speechless Grin

Winenotttea · 12/07/2019 13:03

Wowsers, that is AMAZING 😂 😂
If I was in London I’d have to go and view it!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 12/07/2019 13:24

@proteinshakes - I think what is now the bar would have at one stage been the living room. There is no living room.

The house needs to be gutted. Sell the stained glass. Redo the bedrooms (that 4 poster bed would have to go as it alone is giving me nightmares). The kitchen would have to be stripped back and redone.
Two bedrooms down stairs?? No thanks.

I would have the kitchen redone. The bathroom downstairs would move upstairs. The two downstairs bedrooms would be reinstated as reception rooms (one living room, one dining room). Where the bar is now I would divide up and make it into bedrooms, and I'd install the bathroom there too.

All of that would probably cost the same as the mortgage so unless you're loaded...I'd pass on that property.
Also your 'new' neighbours would love all of the noise, dust and dirt that goes along with all of that renovation so you'd better be a good neighbor to them at the end. :)

SweetMelodies · 12/07/2019 13:26

SO many questions

CoolShoeshine · 13/07/2019 08:12

I was thinking it must have been used as a hmo because of so many bedrooms but brothel makes more sense Grin. The house seems massive when looking through the pics but from the floor plan is only a 2 bed in reality.
However I would adore to give that house a makeover but I do love the glass ceiling so that would have to stay.
