Fully fitted front door - how much?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/08/2018 17:25

Just had a salesman round who quoted £2744 for a composite door. It was a fugly one, too. Can this be right?

Has anyone recently had a nice door fitted? I prefer wooden doors and would be interested to know how much a reclaimed door fitted with all the locks etc would cost as well as the standard composite doors.

Thanks!

Our was around 1k

skippy67 · 11/08/2018 07:40

Ours was £1200 from Rockdoor.

Doors are such a pain. After checking with many local and national joiners, whose prices varied massively but were all astronomical, we finally bought a solid wood one on line and had a builder decorate and install it. I can't remember how much we paid but it was the cheapest option for a solid wood door for us. The builder didn't want to take away our nasty white pvc door because they are the safest. I now have a beautiful door that I feel slightly insecure about!

@witwootoodleoo That is massively nicer than any of the horrid doors I was offered. Salesman seemed personally offended that I didn't like them!

This is ours - when first fitted - not quite so immaculate now Grin

Still looks good though, & I'm delighted I’ll never have to paint it!

Where are you based lapdance as that is a beautiful door

LapdanceShoeshine · 11/08/2018 21:30

@Reese123

Thank you Smile

I’m in Lancashire but the door was from a national (I think) company - but I can’t remember the name & I can’t find the brochure Confused

I could ring the local supplier though & ask!

(Rockdoor do a very similar one, but much more expensive I think)

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/08/2018 21:35

Lap dance, that’s exactly the colour of door I’ve been looking at I think...something like Chartwell green?

Yes, Chartwell - loads of door companies do it now 😊 Most of them also have a nice duck-egg blue, cream & grey, as well as the classic colours.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 12/08/2018 13:39

@LapdanceShoeshine That door is perfect! If you could find out what company that would be a brilliant help - thanks so much.

I've just looked at 'we do doors' and their Dorset one with clear glass ( looks like lapdances ) is £928 fitted

LapdanceShoeshine · 12/08/2018 19:47

@ElizabethinherGermanGarden

Will do - I’ll ring them tomorrow. Whereabouts do you live (roughly), so I can ask if they can recommend someone near you?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 12/08/2018 21:02

@LapdanceShoeshine I'm on the border between Hampshire and West Sussex. Thank you so much.

We buy fully finished composite doors in at the £290ex vat from this company www.bowaterbybirtley.co.uk we do buy a lot though, so have a volume on our side. Really easy to fit aswell as they come all pre hung, so if you have an old pvc door and frame, that will just unscrew out and screw in new frame. On our home probably took half an when I changed the old door over.

NicoAndTheNiners · 12/08/2018 21:20

I have a wooden door and frame. If I’m buying a composite door do I need a composite frame as well does anyone know?

shabbycaddy · 12/08/2018 21:38

The composite doors tend to come as a whole set, normally you can have a timber frame or upvc frame.

NicoAndTheNiners · 12/08/2018 22:00

Thank you.

holidaylady · 12/08/2018 22:19

Shabby can individual homeowners buy from them too?
Is it just the door and you need a fitter separately?

hollyjollychristmas · 14/08/2018 12:17

We had a door quoted by a national company for £2.5k, when I said no they dropped to £2k straight away! luckily a friends husband does them and did ours for £700 as mates rates, but even if we weren't mates I got the impression he would not charge over £1k for it.

ccmms · 14/08/2018 12:25

We got a new composite door about 2 months ago. Modern design in irish oak. Was £450 for the door and £200 for a joiner to fit it, which took him less than a day.

ccmms · 14/08/2018 12:25

When we bought our it came with the frame.

Halvec · 14/08/2018 15:49

Tesco do doors now. You get loads of club card points too.

LapdanceShoeshine · 14/08/2018 18:33

Mine came from door-stop doors

You can design your own door on the website, & they’ll send you a quote, but they don’t give any fitting company details.

Might be worth ringing them though Smile
