Fully fitted front door - how much?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/08/2018 17:25

Just had a salesman round who quoted £2744 for a composite door. It was a fugly one, too. Can this be right?

Has anyone recently had a nice door fitted? I prefer wooden doors and would be interested to know how much a reclaimed door fitted with all the locks etc would cost as well as the standard composite doors.

Thanks!

That is far too much! We had new solid wood double front doors fitted recently for just under £1,000.

VanillaSugar · 10/08/2018 17:27

I was quoted £3k for a bespoke wood/pane door for an orangery. We didn't buy it. I do need new front & back doors now so watching with interest.

Ours was £1400 for a composite door with small glass pane running down the side.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/08/2018 17:30

@Whatsnewwithyou Thank goodness for that! Where did you get yours from?

@notsomumsymum Was that including all the metalwork and the fitting? Sounds massively better. What company was that?

I’ve just been looking at composite doors online and getting prices around the 1k mark.

From the joiner who lives down the street from us. If you have a local joiner you trust maybe best to get through that route rather than a big name shop?

notsomumsymum · 10/08/2018 17:37

Yes, it was with fitting and taking the old door and window away! It was a local independent company. If you’re in Cheshire I’ll PM you the details Smile

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/08/2018 18:28

Thanks, I will check out local joiners - sadly don't know any yet but will track them down. I'm nowhere near Cheshire but thank you for the offer.

I am getting a door from We Do Doors and although I don’t have it yet I can say that they are very pleasant to deal with, pricing is clear and the process seems very straight forward.

stayhomeclub · 10/08/2018 18:53

I’ve just paid 2300 for new front and back doors

Singlenotsingle · 10/08/2018 18:55

Look online at doors you're interested in, then find a carpenter to fit it.

HardAsSnails · 10/08/2018 20:08

Our Rockdoor was £1600 all in. It's lovely!

prettygreywalls · 10/08/2018 21:11

I've just paid 1k for a new bespoke door (trade ) very modern look

LapdanceShoeshine · 10/08/2018 21:19

Local company fit (nice) composite doors for about £800 - that includes frame - ours needed top glass too, that might have been a bit extra.

Good quality, very much like Rockdoor but I can never remember the make.

witwootoodleoo · 10/08/2018 21:31

We bought this door (but from a local company) and then had a joiner fit it. He painted it for us too. Whole thing cost us about £800 including new locks and door furniture and we get loads of compliments on it.

Door companies were quoting £2.5k plus.

Glitteryfrog · 10/08/2018 21:48

I think ours was about £1200 from the local double glazing company.
Door, frame and window above.

M0reGinPlease · 10/08/2018 21:52

Was it Everest who quoted you perchance OP? They're rip off merchants. A local company will do much cheaper or buy online and fit yourself cheaper still.

chemenger · 10/08/2018 21:59

Not Everest. I have experienced their sales tactics before.

chemenger · 10/08/2018 22:00

Sorry, thought was my door thread! It must be door season.

Accountant222 · 10/08/2018 22:26

Was quoted £4,200.00 for two composite doors this week Solarframe UK not a chance I will be buying them

Jenijena · 10/08/2018 22:28

We had new windows and doors fitted. From what I remember we went for the highest of the three door options (thickness of composite), cost £1200.

buddy79 · 10/08/2018 23:02

We were quoted about £3k for a composite from Everest - seemed a bit mad! Got local joiner to do timber door instead, was £900 incl fitting/locks/letterbox etc and we’re really pleased with it, much better value!

Alexalee · 11/08/2018 07:33

800-1000 for cheaper end 1500ish for perceived better door like rockdoor
The quote you got is ridiculous but they always start high so when the give you s special offer half price it seems good value. Very prevalent in the double glazing business
