Is there such a thing as sexy (affordable) lino?

I like patterns and colours, the Cath Kidstin stuff appeals and I've just received some samples of this, which I love, but it's all pretty expensive.
Any thoughts on where I could be looking?

Many thanks

What is that? I am looking for the same thing!

I just did a bathroom in black and white tile effect lino that seems to be everywhere. £11.99 per square metre. I have had SO many compliments on it and it has totally transformed the room.

I'm now looking for something for my conservatory. I have been looking at Amtico. But I love your photo above!

Aprilshowersinaugust · 07/08/2018 13:56

No way would I put sexy +lino in the same sentence tbh! Confused

lexer · 07/08/2018 16:19

Vinyl or linoleum looks great these days and there is lots on offer. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-design-superior-vinyl-flooring/pilton/p3663223

We put Amtico in our shower room and I so wish we hadn't. Too expensive and not well fitted and looks a bit boring compared to some of the vinyl/lino on offer now.

lexer · 07/08/2018 16:20

gorgeous stuff here www.forbo.com/flooring/en-gl/products/linoleum/cmlack

hooliodancer · 07/08/2018 16:37

The stuff I have is from Factory Direct Flooring.

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2018 16:43

You don’t mean Lino you mean vinyl, it’s very different and it fitted in a different way
You probably want LVT ( luxury vinyl tiles/planks). Try Amtico, karndean or Armstrong

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2018 16:44

Or possibly Rhinofloor

TheWeatherGirl1 · 07/08/2018 17:06

Ah, vinyl. Ok.

I saw some victorian tile style vinyl in a bathroom and really rated it.
I've seen the John Lewis stuff before, they have some nice ones too.
I'll look at the other suggestions, thanks.

This is the info on the stuff in the first pic

Some of the vinyl sheet is actually quite nice now too.
I’ve got a mosaic effect in my downstairs loo and get loads of compliments about it

lexer · 07/08/2018 17:13

Why doesn't she mean lino? I'm confused.

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2018 17:18

Lino is made from cork and linseed mostly. It takes specialists to fit it, most flooring companies aren’t capable of doing a good job. It also has to be heat joined and sealed. The seal must be redone every 5-10 years depending on traffic.
Vinyl is a type of plastic and even amateurs can do an ok job of it with some diy skills
It’s very unusual to find Lino in a house these days, hospitals use to use it a lot as isn’t the best medium for bacteria to grown on
Used to work for a flooring company

MillyMolly123 · 07/08/2018 20:01

Ooh, we have that. I love it so much. I know it’s expensive but it’s guaranteed for 25 years and shouldn’t date (that’s how I justified it anyway) Wink

We have Marmoleum in our kitchen. Posh lino that looks fab 15 years on from fitting.

SunnyUpNorth · 07/08/2018 23:03

We have a different patterned one from Harvey Maria in our bathroom. I like the pattern but it’s only been down a year and is already quite scuffed. Plus thats in an upstairs room where people would rarely be wearing shoes. Didn’t know about the guarantee!

MillyMolly123 · 07/08/2018 23:17

Ah, that’s a shame. Ours is in the hall which gets lots of abuse - it’s been down for 6 months and looks as good as new. The guarantee does not cover general wear and tear which I guess they may use in their defence in your case.

Love these tiles. They were featured on a house George Clarke renovated and I’ve been searching for them. I want to put them in the bathroom but worried water might get underneath and lift them. They look fantastic though

meladeso · 09/08/2018 07:25

Ooh MillyMolly123 what paint is that on your hallway walls? I'm just about to start looking for samples in just that colour!

WatermelonGlitter · 09/08/2018 07:34

@SunnyUpNorth - so you wouldn't recommend the Harvey Maria then? I've been looking at their Cath Kidston flooring and thought it looked hard wearing as it seemed to have quite a thick covering to it.

SunnyUpNorth · 09/08/2018 08:02

I’m not sure, I do really like it, I love the pattern but I’m not sure how it would fare in a high traffic area. It might depend on the pattern too as to how much the wear/dirt shows up. Outside gets title dirt marks on it that can be quite hard to scrub out and that’s just in the kids bathroom. I’ll post the one we have, there is a lot of white on it so may show up dirt and scuffs more than a more heavily coloured one.

SunnyUpNorth · 09/08/2018 08:14

Not sure what happened there. It should say ‘ours gets little dirt marks....’

Vaycayheyhey · 09/08/2018 08:52

Atrafloor.com has amazing stuff

SunnyUpNorth · 09/08/2018 08:55

This is the one we went for...

It's lovely Sunny. I was looking at the red polka dot. I might order a sample of yours to see if it has the same kind of coating as the CK. Our kitchen is fairly big, and expensive to floor..we have had two disasters with lino..I can't afford another.
