Both are same size but divided up and laid out differently. Which is better layout do you think and why?

I'd personally always rather the kitchen led onto the garden.

colouringinagain · 02/04/2018 23:48

I'd go for the blue one too with kitchen onto garden. Works really well for us.

beereyt · 02/04/2018 23:49

Blue one. But where is the sun for most of the day?

Icantreachthepretzels · 02/04/2018 23:52

I'm another vote for blue. I don't know why, because it actually makes no difference with a separate utility room, but in my head it makes more sense for the kitchen to be closer to the utility than for the living room.

bastardkitty · 02/04/2018 23:53

It also depends on the size your family. The lounge looks quite snug in the blue one. Is there enough room for everyone? I like both options. The light should be a factor. I think resale might be easier with the red one, if that's an issue.

Poppyfields21 · 02/04/2018 23:54

Much prefer the blue one. Something about the other one doesn’t flow correctly

peterpanwendy · 02/04/2018 23:55

Blue definitely!

namechangedtoday15 · 02/04/2018 23:55

We have blue one (or v similar). Most people spend 90% of their time at home - apart from sleeping - pottering in kitchen / cooking / eating and it's much nicer to have the light of the garden & outlook.

MouseMovingHouse · 02/04/2018 23:56

Beereyt Afraid I don’t know about the sun. Could you work it out from this:
Front of house faces South East and the back faces North West. Would be very interesting to know!

Blue. I probably wouldn’t buy a house with the other layout.

dotdotdotmustdash · 02/04/2018 23:58

The blue one is better, but I wouldn't have the kitchen units next to the garden, rather I would have swap that with the sofa/family area.

PrimalLass · 02/04/2018 23:58

Blue one but with the kitchen bit where the dining table and sofa are.

JigglyTuff · 02/04/2018 23:59

Blue one definitely

tralaaa · 03/04/2018 06:35

Blue. Flows better better access to the garden an utility.

icklekid · 03/04/2018 06:38

Blue. Very similar to what we have and works well. We have the front lounge as a child free room and so it is really nice- this may he irrelevant to you though!

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 03/04/2018 06:38

Purple. I like the sitting room to lead into the garden.

CountFosco · 03/04/2018 06:45

I'd rather have the kitchen diner at the back but don't like the reduction in the size of the sitting room in the blue one. And who wants a sofa in the kitchen diner? That big room will end up constantly messy and no-one will use the small lounge.

Bluetoo1 · 03/04/2018 06:47

Sun would come up and shine a bit in bay window, right side, then move round to come in big side windows mid day, then round to back and garden late afternoon. Obv depends on time of year.

Eryri1981 · 03/04/2018 06:54

Another vote for blue but switched around with kitchen where living bit is and sofa by the patio doors.

Eryri1981 · 03/04/2018 06:57

Also, other problem I see, the big windows (dining room in blue design) are south facing. Presumably you will mostly use dining table in evening, which means you aren't taking advantage of the best light.

TinyPawz · 03/04/2018 07:25

Pink layout but with kitchen to the back and living room to the front. I'm not a fan of open plan. Not a tidy person naturally

parkview094 · 03/04/2018 08:36

I prefer the blue too, although they both have their issues.
The biggest problem for me with the pink is:

  1. The furniture layout of the back room would be awkward. What would you do in the partial bay on the left?
  2. The kitchen is open to the stairs - you couldn't stop your cooking smells wafting upstairs.

It's a shame with the blue, that there is no-where you can sit an admire the garden.. (although maybe there is a good view out the bay on the LHS?)

NutCase82 · 03/04/2018 08:46

Blue. Seems more room and more social and leads out to garden. Family gathering at table can still see kids in garden (what happens with us).

DonaldWeasley · 03/04/2018 08:49

Blue but swap the kitchen so either the doing or lounge area are directly by the back door.
