How much to carpet a house?

Emilybrontescorsett · 06/12/2017 18:51

Quick question.
We are buying a new house and have been quoted £2100 to carpet lounge, hall, stairs, landing and 3 bedrooms.
It's a 3 bed semi.
The 3 bedrooms are a cheaper carpet the rest is better quality.
Does that sound reasonable?
I've no idea as haven't done this in ages.
Thanks

Does that include underlay and fittings? If so, I'd say it was about right.

stayhomeclub · 06/12/2017 19:07

I think if it is fully inclusive then that’s about right. We were quoted around 1700 for four bedrooms (two quite small) landing and stairs

Boredboredboredboredbored · 06/12/2017 19:08

I paid 3k just yesterday for the same a 3 bed semi so about right I'd say

JoJoSM2 · 06/12/2017 20:41

I’d say that’s cheap.

78Indigo · 06/12/2017 21:49

Location? Is this London?

spurtions · 06/12/2017 21:51

I just paid £2300 for 4 beds and 2 sets of stairs and landings

Emilybrontescorsett · 06/12/2017 22:10

It includes everything.
It's not London it's much further north.
So it sounds about right then from most of the replies.
Wow I was thinking around £500 for a living room, but that shows how good my sense of measurement is!

£1800 here for 3 bed terrace on a major budget.

blaaake · 06/12/2017 22:52

You're carpeting the hallway?! I'd save yourself some money and have wood, we regretted carpeting the hall in our last house as it always ended up dirty from shoes walking in and traffic etc

Bluebell1981 · 06/12/2017 23:02

I've just paid £400 for two bedrooms, stairs and landing. Only bedrooms needed underlay. Sounds very expensive to me!!

MinorRSole · 06/12/2017 23:17

You can get it done cheaper but for more hassle. We did our 3 bed for £1000 but that was buying the carpets online and paying a carpet fitter off the books. Carpets still look great 5 years on so overall happy

Think we used online carpets (only thing we had to redo was kitchen but that's because we had Lino and the puppy chewed it! We have laminate now)

beargryllshasabigrope · 07/12/2017 08:56

I’ve just been quoted 2k for a 3 bed, including underlay and room dividers etc. Bloody expensive if you ask me!

JustBeingJobless · 07/12/2017 11:08

My dad paid £2k last year to completely floor a large 2 bed bungalow (mixture of carpet and Karndean type flooring) so I would say that’s about right.

Emilybrontescorsett · 08/12/2017 17:06

We are going to go with it as I'm struggling to find the same quality and colour anywhere else who can fit it soon.
Hopefully it I'll last a very long time!

Depends on the carpet I suppose OP but that sounds ok to me.

AgnesSkinner · 08/12/2017 20:08

How long is a piece of string? All depends on square footage, carpet and underlay quality and fitting.

78Indigo · 08/12/2017 20:44

Ok not London, if you don't mind me asking where in the North? We supply and fit at extremely good prices all across the N West.

rainsbows · 08/12/2017 20:56

About 6k to do four very large doubles, 2 staircases, landing, lounge and playroom.

FruitCider · 08/12/2017 22:10

This year I paid £1500 to have a 2 bed house fully carpeted and fitted with underlay and door bars etc. All my carpets were remnants. So I would say £2100 for a 3 bed is good value! X

Emilybrontescorsett · 10/12/2017 18:17

Hi thanks 78 but we are in Yorkshire, and very cold at the moment!!! Hence needing thick carpets!

Scuse typos

mumof2kiddos · 10/12/2017 21:12

1800 for 4 bedrooms stair-case landing and living room, with underlay and room dividers. 2.5 years ago in South Manchester. It was from a small carpet fitting shop but they did a good job and I am pleased with it.
Recently got a quote for carpetting 4 bed landing staircase with underlay and budget hard-wearing carpet for 600 for my rental property in Milton Keynes. A really good quote but in the end only did the landing and stair-case for 200.

simm08 · 28/08/2019 15:56

Do these quotes include the cost of the carpets?
