Can I have honest thoughts on this window that just been put in our garage conversion. I’m concerned it looks out of place. We intend to swap all the glass out for plain non cross design in future.

I love the crossed top windows my house has the same exact windows. The extension window looks out of place and isn't as nice a style as the rest; as others have said it needs to be in keeping with the rest of the house.

I agree that the cross windows appear to fit the design of the house. Just be sure that you are allowed to change them before you do - similar style houses in our town are in the conservation zone and aren't allowed to change certain things- window style being one.

Do you have a door next to the window in the garage? What is the black “door” tonthe left of the window? If it’s not a door, what is it? If it is a door, do you need it? You have space for 2 windows and it would blend in with the ground floor.

If changing to 2 windows that match the ground floor front window is too difficult, I think you must go with the 33/33/33 split with the same top decoration as the existing windows. Developers never use custom build windows so your builder will be able to get whatever you decide on.

@sophiepumpkin - I may have cheated by widening the window to allow for the 33-33-33 split. Depending on the thickness of your interior walls this may or may not be achievable. If that doesn't work, I think a 50-50 to match the other ground floor window (or the window above) would still work.

No need for a decorative window IMO, the window above meets the roofline without a window, so the new ground floor window should match I feel..

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether the Architect thinks it's fine or indeed anyone here - all that matters is whether you are happy with it. If you're paying an architect to do a job, they should be doing a job that meets your requirements.

Thanks everyone. I'm blown away by how helpful you have been! So I've gone for a slightly wider window with 3/3/3/ as per top left. Keeping everything crossed it's ok.
We've been stung by a fancy architect with next to no interest in our modest project, I'm basically re doing it as I go along.
Builder didn't take it too badly thankfully.

I think you've made the right decision. Worth doing properly!

That is pretty shit. "Its fine" isn't what you pay an architect for is it! They should be all over things like this.
