Good lord. It’s, erm, unique.
So many questions. Why is the jaunty toilet so far away from the toilet roll holder? Why is it jaunty in the first place? Why so much cheapy pine furniture if you have a £5m house? Why the fanny bath? Why???

Battyoldbat · 18/11/2017 11:59

Oh and whyyyyyy carpet all the way right up to the edge of the shell bath?!

DurhamDurham · 18/11/2017 12:17

I’m thinking that the bidet and toilet are set at jaunty angles so that you can have a nice chat whilst going about your business.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 18/11/2017 12:28

Is there a woman sitting at the table in the second garden photo?

HotDamnState · 18/11/2017 12:36

My theory is that a wealthy crime family moved in to the house in 1974, did it up very high spec for that era,, had a few happy years there, but had to flee the country when a dodgy deal went wrong circa 1982 (roughly around the time people stopped buying the Encyclopaedia Britannica in instalments, which I notice takes pride of place on the bookshelves, and started buying black leather sofas).

The family photo of the garden looks a bit grainy, too. I believe it was taken in a time before digital cameras Grin. A time when rich people had landline phones by their bedside and those massive TVs they wheeled out at school were really cool (having one in your bedroom would certainly have been an unheard of luxury).

They have only just been able to come out of hiding and sort out their affairs, so the house has been perfectly preserved in a land that time forgot.

I bet there is money hidden underneath the floorboards Grin

GerundTheBehemoth · 18/11/2017 12:38

That's £5 million of yuk!

NotCitrus · 18/11/2017 12:38

It's a bizarre mix of expensive expat millionaire and 70s cheap B&B! I wonder if the bling fans did up the downstairs and main bedroom and then got bored and decided to sell instead?

AlternativeTentacle · 18/11/2017 12:42

Some of those photos are on very old digital cameras, so I am guessing it doesn't look like that now...what an omnishambles.

LinoleumBlownapart · 18/11/2017 12:47

I like it HotDamn. Great theory. I'm curious about this house as well, but my friend's parents had a similar house in that area, it was decorated just like that. Money and taste don't always go together. They're not even nouveau rich either, they just didn't really care. They sold it as was, complete with maroon bathrooms and an ice cold swimming pool in a Kew gardens style glass house, with palm trees.

Sidge · 18/11/2017 13:03

Crikey, that's ummm, an interesting house! They have an awful lot of stuff, especially chairs and tables!

I think it's missing some macramé plant holders and ashtrays on a stand next to the chairs. I can visualise the owner wafting around in a kaftan and turban, à la Margo Leadbetter Grin

BuzzKillington · 18/11/2017 13:07

Oh my!

There isn't a non-hideous bit of that house. Even the exterior is hideous. If it wasn't so expensive, you'd knock it down and start again.

I am intrigued by the bidets and loos at jaunty angles.

I think it’s rather fabulous - a true homage to the absolute height of 70s Nuevo Riche.

How do you get into the ‘family room’ tho?

SilverSpot · 18/11/2017 13:53

Ffs nouveau riche

SilverSpot · 18/11/2017 13:57

I quite like the mermaid shell bath...

What a fab house to grow up in. I bet they had some amazing children’s parties around the pool, and dinner parties serving 70s abominations.

jnl0612 · 18/11/2017 14:23

I hadn’t even noticed that the shell was in the bedroom 🙈
Definitely quirky that’s for sure !
