Lose the kitchen door?

I'm going round in circles, any help appreciated.
I'm opening up the wall between kitchen / diner, so losing wall space. The kitchen is small and has too many doors. Would it be foolish to shut off the door between the kitchen and hallway?
The only downside I can envisage is carrying shopping through the living room, but I can live with that.
There is loads of sun into the back of the house, so light not an issue.
I could also then use the hallway side of the old door for a shoe / coat rack, as well as having another run of units on the kitchen side.
Would it be daft to close off the door? Thanks in advance!

Sounds sensible. We used to live in a terrace and had to walk through the living room into the kitchen. It was fine.

Do you have a floor plan?

I wouldn't like having to go through the sitting room really but in this case it sounds like it might be the best solution.

Do you have to go sitting room > diner > kitchen? If so is there any way to close of the sitting room to have it separate and a door onto the diner?

Silver there are double doors between siting and dining room, so can easily separate front and back of house, but no option to door directly onto sitting room from hallway.
As I must this actually it wold be a big pain in the bum to not have easy access to the playroom from the kitchen, as we spend most of our respective time in there. What a dilemma!

Thanks Trojan, that's pretty much what I'm thinking to do. Do you ever miss not seeing the front door from the kitchen when you are busy out there? I appreciate this is a huge first world problem

I would. We viewed a few bog standard semis with this sort of layout, in the summer, and one had done exactly that. It made a big difference, having space for another couple of units or whatever.

I would close off the doors between lounge and diner and keep the door from the kitchen into the hall.

A lot of houses in our area you go through the dining room (if 2 separate rooms) to get to the kitchen, or the living/ dining room (if open plan) to get to the kitchen.
It's honestly no issue at all. Yes at first it was a bit strange (particularly if you're used to having your living and dining rooms off the hallway, and your kitchen at the end), but you soon get used to it.

Agree with @Tubby. We are looking at houses and I would not like your suggested idea but I like the idea of big kitchen dinner with complely separate lounge room.

Apologies to go against the grain here, but I wouldn't.
I personally wouldn't want to have to carry my shopping through the living room then the diner to get to the kitchen.
You may also suffer from a loss of light to the hallway by removing the kitchen door.
Depending on your where your stairs are - you may end up with an odd 'blank space' in the hall that looks like a door has been blocked up.

I would do something like the attached. Either block off the living room and have the kitchen in the diner as n L, or in the current kitchen part with an island (if you have space, hard to tel with no measurements).

When I saw this thread I thought I had written it! Different layout but same issue. I think we are going to lose the door to get a better kitchen. In your case though i would definitely lose the lounge door. Ours is below and we are blocking top right door

We have no door from kitchen to hall. I hate the living and dining rooms (areas) being a corridor. We are now doing what tubby suggests. I can't wait!

I would block off the lounge and have your kitchen in the dining room. I’d hate carrying shopping through the lounge
