Double sinks or larger shower?

Just renovating the ensuite, we can either have a 1200mm double sink unit and a 1200mm x 800 shower..... or a larger 1600 x 900mm shower with a 800mm single sink. I think I'd prefer the larger shower but we might want to move in 2 or 3 years so which do you think would be best? Thank you :)

Can't see double sinks dating, as they are so practical. However I'd go larger shower every time.

The ‘small’ shower is actually a very comfortable size. I’d go with 2 washbasins especially if it’s the ensuite which will get used by 2 adults at the same time.

Why would you need two sinks (genuine question from someone who grew up in a house with no washbasin at all in a downstairs bathroom)?

I've never used double sinks - I just don't get them, who wants to clean 2 sinks?
What do you use them for that you need 2 at once?
When 2 of us used my ensuite we clean out teeth together at one sink.

I would never want double sinks. I do not want to stand next to anyone brushing my teeth, etc.

The whole 2 sinks thing is a classic first world problem, why not have 2 sinks if you can? I can't think of anything more annoying than sharing a sink to brush teeth with someone else, I like my own space in that respect. There are many reasons why 2 is better than 1, but then it's not exactly a life necessity.

I'd probably go for neither and leave more space around everything.

Larger shower. You only have one face so the only point I can see to double sinks is your partner can do his shaving and spitting whilst you're getting washed. Is that really what you want?

Your en suite sounds bigger than our family bathroom! I'd go for the bigger shower too. I think his and hers basins are a bit twee too.

why not go for two toilets as well? Apart from small children, I wouldn't want to share time in a bathroom with anyone.

To answer those that are surprised at the use of 2 washbasins: we would find them very useful. To the point that within a few months of refurbishing the ensuite I wanted to rip it out and start all over again.

DH and I get ready at the same time and it’d be useful not to get in each other’s which we invariably do with just one washbasin. Brushing teeth, putting creams on, products going into hair etc also I love drawers in the vanity, so when I need to take sth out, DH needs to move out of the way.

However, I don’t think we’d quite fancy taking showers side by side every morning so a good size single shower would be just fine.

Shower all the way, maybe not double sinks but a slightly larger one so you can both lean over if needed?

I’d be brushing my own teeth. I don’t want company while I do it. If people really must brush their teeth concurrently (rather than consecutively), then the answer is clearly to have two bathrooms rather than two sinks in the one bathroom.

Larger shower for sure, if the alternative is double sinks. I'd probably use the excess space to install built in storage instead if given the choice though. Need loads of it for toiletries/medicines etc in bathrooms.

I wish I had double sinks in our only bathroom! You generally aren’t in a shower for long - would double sinks get used more often?
I think I’d go for double sinks - but if there’s space I think I’d rather have a bidet or a Japanese deep bathing tub (you sit up in them) beside a small shower.
