Double sinks or larger shower?

Just renovating the ensuite, we can either have a 1200mm double sink unit and a 1200mm x 800 shower..... or a larger 1600 x 900mm shower with a 800mm single sink. I think I'd prefer the larger shower but we might want to move in 2 or 3 years so which do you think would be best? Thank you :)

DH and I get ready at the same time and it’d be useful not to get in each other’s which we invariably do with just one washbasin.

DH and I do this - and travel to work together too! Somehow we manage to take it in turns in our one downstairs bathroom because we have found that the earth won’t spin off its axis if we do our morning routine in a slightly different order.

sparechange · 22/10/2017 11:18

We’ve just moved and gone from a big shower and double sinks, to small shower and one sink

I definitely miss the double sink more than the bigger shower so my vote would be for double sinks

Also, I noticed they seem to be pretty ubiquitous in en suites of naice houses when we were looking, so I think they would be more of a selling feature when you sell

Larger shower without a doubt.

KitKat1985 · 22/10/2017 12:28

Larger shower.

minipie · 22/10/2017 12:30

I do like double sinks but if it's one or the other I'd choose a larger shower.

Humptynumpty02 · 22/10/2017 14:30

then the answer is clearly to have two bathrooms rather than two sinks in the one bathroom.

Totally agree, which is fine since we all have money growing on trees so yes why not just build an extra bathroom. Question is whether to put it in the west wing or the east...job done.

NC4now · 22/10/2017 14:33

Larger shower. My ablutions are a solo activity.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 22/10/2017 14:35

Our shower is 1200 x 800 and it’s really big! Go for the double sinks that way you have large shower AND double sinks.

I may have been joking...

The answer is to leave me alone to brush my teeth and wait til I’m finished.

Also, this is a thread about whether to have a huge shower or a double sink in a renovated ensuite. So the OP already has 2 bathrooms.

No need for a west wing.

Oly5 · 22/10/2017 14:53

Big shower for me every time

NotAgainYoda · 22/10/2017 14:55

Double sinks are an unnecessary 'luxury' (poncey)

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 22/10/2017 15:02

Well, I'm feeling very hard done by, only one bathroom here, no ensures with any sinks. And yet somehow, we manage to get ready for work ( as so adult dcs) with an over the bath shower and one sink.

If I was in the position of having the ops 'dilemma', I'd go for a larger showers - my ablutions are definitely a solo activity.

In that case definitely a double sink..

BackforGood · 22/10/2017 15:54

Larger shower.
Or possibly more 'space' in the room.
Definitely wouldn't have 2 sinks - completely pointless fashion trend IMO

WeAllHaveWings · 22/10/2017 16:09

Our shower is 1200 * 760 and big enough don’t see the need for bigger. I’d go with more space in the room.

Double basins are standard in some parts of Europe; in our last two houses abroad there were double basins in each bathroom; and in this one two out of the three bathrooms have double basins. I was so converted that I had double basins put in my bathroom in the UK. Dh can have all his shaving clobber around his basin, and I can have my skin stuff around mine.

specialsubject · 23/10/2017 13:17

Toothbrushing takes two minutes. There is no need to share a sink. How many people in the house anyway?

QueenBeet · 24/10/2017 09:13

Double sinks aren't a new thing - as a previous poster said, they've had them in Europe for decades, which is about how long I've wanted them ! I'd love a double sink set-up for all those times when I've wanted to soak things but still be able to wash my hands (usually to wipe off the stuff I'm soaking my clothes in !).

scaryteacher · 24/10/2017 13:37

Specialsubject Dh wet shaves, so razor, shaving brush, shaving soap, then ordinary soap for brainwashing, toothbrush and paste etc. My sink has my toothbrush and paste, deodorant, moisturizers, night creams etc there, so two sinks are very useful. I don't like bristles in my sink either....

Saved time if we were going out too. I could do my make up in my mirror over my sink, whilst he used his to shave. It works for us.

New rental has bidets. I sit on the bathroom window sill and soak my feet!

scaryteacher · 24/10/2017 13:39

Duh He washes his hands, not his brain with ordinary soap.
