Advice req'd on changing layout of ground floor

Hi,
Looking some creative advice on how to easily (cheaply) adapt our current house layout to be better. Would really prefer to merge the kitchen & family room but there’s a utility room & toilet in between. Thought about moving the utility to back of house, cupboard area but really want to keep toilet. Can anyone suggest something simple that I can’t see? TIA

Put utility and loo in current kitchen and merge back of house?

Hopefully a stud wall so make what is now kitchen smaller

The most cost effective way of doing this is to minimise having to move plumbing and drainage .
Remove loo and west utility wall.
Make utility narrower east-west, but bigger north-south if required.
Make new WC postioned on north side of new utility.

I would move the toilet to the closet area and then knock out the existing toilet and utility to make one big room - probably not the cheapest solution as it would involve new plumbing and steelwork to support 1st floor but that would give you the 1 big room you are after. We have just done similar and it's an amazing space we use all the time.

There's no measurements so I don't know how generous the space is but you could put a utility space in where the kitchen is now and then remove existing utility and put all your kitchen plumbing in there.

Or move the loo too as RandomMess says. If it's going into the bit that was the kitchen that shouldn't be too difficult with the plumbing?

Fab ideas, the kitchen is currently at the front of the house, the porch is the front entrance. Would it be a bit weird to have utility right at front looking out onto front driveway? Diagram maybe makes it confusing.

I don't think so. You could have to door to the loo off the moved utility room if you prefer.

Or if the porch is small I would consider a walk in proper cloak area for coats, bags & crap with a door to the loo.

If it's anything like my futility room you'll want to frost that front window with window film

But otherwise I don't think it matters. The space needs to be for how you live.

You could make the WC and L shape so it has the window? But you'd still want that frosted or obscured for privacy so might be better to have utility there with the sink under the window and a view of the street.

You could actually then leave loo in current room but move doorway to open into cloak area.

I’d do like the diagram a previous poster has done. But if possible also open up the family room to incorporate the cupboard and hallway at the rear of the house to make the kitchen/family room area even bigger

Utility is better at front of house - come in and straight away put coats/muddy shoes etc into utility.

I assumed the cupboard "c" was going???

I would also have a frosted glass door & panel between kitchen and new utility to maximise the light

Unless you have units on the wall there RM? That's where all the plumbing will be from the old utility.

Op, what's the aspect? You don't want the kitchen bit to be gloomy.

I was thinking two things at once there - boot room/utility will be off the hall because it will need to be near front door but I was also thinking utility off kitchen because it's handy to be connected and it has a doorway there now.

Obviously can't do both!!

I think it depends. If you have utility at the front using existing kitchen door and then leave loo in the same place you probably wouldn't want to have a door to the kitchen too because it will already be narrower at that end.

If you go for the diagram as above then it has to have the door between kitchen and utility unless you climb in the window to access it

Fab ideas. We’ve lived in house 6 months nearly and assumed creative genius would strike once we had lived in it a bit! But still not really...architects haven’t even really known how to inspire. Attached some other photos of house to give you an idea of size of window in current kitchen & porch. House has so much potential we just can’t seem to get there. Have considered a small extension on back but it’s north facing to rear. Front kitchen is south facing.
