Best sofa with young children

Hello! We are replacing our sofa and have a baby on the way (and a cat!). I'm not a big fan of leather sofas but suspect these might be best for maintenance?

Any suggestions on types on sofas and recommendations for value for money suppliers would be gratefully received!

Thanks

I was going to say leather! There's a lot to be said for wipe clean... Grin

I was going to say black or brown leather.my sister has a beige leather sofa, but it is stained from her dc's spilling things on it.

We found a cheap IKEA sofa with two sets of washable covers worked well for us.

Another vote for wipe clean leather. I shudder to think how ours would look by now if they were fabric.

Jumbo cord. We inherited a 13 year old one when we were in military housing in the USA and even with2 dogs and countless red wine spills, after 3 years we gave it to our friends that loved it (scrapped due to cancellation of posting). We bought one from DFS + stain protection. It's had felt pens, poo, red wine, dog fluff, snot etc and still looks brand new. We've also had the of scrabble on it to make a bed and there's no scratch marks at all. Leather is the obvious choice, but I dislike it; too cold in winter, sweaty in Summer.

A cheap one! We bought dark brown leather when our children were toddlers. They've been useful but I'm sooo ready to go back to fabric!

If you're not a fan of leather, then the washable cover sofas from Ikea are a good choice. They are comfy and sturdy too.

We've got black leather. It's worn well.

I'd second something with removable covers you're able to wash, if you're not a fan of leather.

Thank you all!! Food for thought

Personally I loathe leather sofas, so cold, shiney and slippy unless it's the sort of leather that is matt but then will get stained. Just get a cheap one, we got a Laura Ashley sofa for £40 off eBay, and we just have a big washable quilt over the seat cushions that can easily be taken off and washed if there are any spills. To be fair it's DP who makes the mess, DD is pretty good at keeping things nice. The sofa itself is a silk blend so a bitch to wash, but I won't mind if it gets ruined because it was so so cheap.

Leather. We have just got rid of our lovely soft cream beige fabric sofas 😔 because we have a baby on the way. Two cats and two dogs!

YorkshireTea86 · 04/10/2017 10:32

We got leather just before our first was born, he's about to turn 7 and I'm so pleased we went with leather, so easy to wipe clean, it's held up well overall, it's a dark tan and chocolate one. The fabric one we had before kids looked disgusting after 12 months, it was a cheapish dfs one.

jarox · 04/10/2017 15:46

We got a next sofa, their covers come off and wash well!! I think leather is still quite easy to stain/hard to clean!!x

Second hand vinyl coz we are classy :). But it does the job and I don't care what happens to it.
