Ok so just started looking at this house online and it immediately gave me the creeps...then I got to the last pic and my fears were confirmed! CREEPY CHILD ALERT.

I don't think it's creepy, more in need of some renovation, but totally agree rhe last two black and white pics are weird, and the one with the kid is creepy. And totally unnecessary. God knows what they are thinking posting that.

AlpacaLypse · 06/09/2017 14:25

Not my cup of tea although the garden's nice but I've never seen old photos of a house added on to the sales details before. They're not adding anything to the pitch!

RatRolyPoly · 06/09/2017 14:30

I wasn't with you (well, I was starting to feel it but I think it was "sympathy-creep")... but then I looked again at the last picture. CREEPY!!

Thenorthbloodywellremembers · 06/09/2017 14:30

It is a bit odd but the bottom of the blurb has a bit from the owner saying his grandfather bought it in 1934. I presume the photo is of him as a boy. I rather like it and would love to have a house where I knew who had lived there that far back.

Ttbb · 06/09/2017 14:33

I don't care how creepy it is. I'd happily risk demonic possession for 2,700 sqf

RatRolyPoly · 06/09/2017 14:34

I didn't read that "Thenorth", that puts quite a different spin of melancholy on the last picture. Imagine selling the family house after 3 generations. To my mind most of the reasons for doing so would be somehow tinged with sadness or perhaps I've got doom and gloom on the mind

Bluntness100 · 06/09/2017 15:28

I think though they have painted over the old beams and window frames, and removed some of the original features, which I always think is a shame.

Someone clearly thought the wooden beams and window frames would be nicer in white paint and that the living room fire was better than what was originally there and in keeping with the period. I can never understand that. I assume the current owners parents as it looks a bit sixties or seventies.

Fab house, fab space, fab view.

Love the old photo.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/09/2017 16:36

Creepy figure. 👻

emsyj37 · 06/09/2017 17:04

I think it's lovely, and I quite like the old pics of how it was when the current owners moved in. It's a lovely house.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/09/2017 17:13

There was a couple on Location, Location, Location recently whose criteria for their new house was must have an interesting story attached to the property Confused
They ended up buying an old Masonic Lodge building instead of an actual house...
There really are people out there who would be utterly charmed at the history of the place they're buying, even though it's fairly irrelevant unless you're actually related to the vendors.

Fekko · 06/09/2017 17:17

I like th dungeon.

bouhoo · 06/09/2017 17:19

I think it's absolutely beautiful.

I think the historic photos are a mistake though!

TheWeeWitch · 06/09/2017 17:20

As pp said, the owner has obviously tried to add a personal touch by posting a picture of himself as a lad standing on the doorstep. It's a bit odd, perhaps, but hardly creepy.

Bluntness100 · 06/09/2017 17:20

I think it's substantially over priced. It needs a lot of renovation work inc a new kitchen. As well as painting over the beams, removing original features, painting it pink and remove the shutters from outside, a kitchen that old would make me think what else hasn't been done to it.

Look at this one which is less than half a mile away and sold for 200k less in may. I know this area well and I don't think this is a million pounds worth of house.

Who's idea was it to add the whole 'house murder' vibe to the slideshow? Creepy!!

Otherwise, great house!

Movingonuppppp · 06/09/2017 17:23

I love old houses and history. I just get a bad feeling looking at these pics and felt it even before I saw that creepy boy. I don't care how big it is it doesn't feel right.

GavelRavel · 06/09/2017 17:23

I don't think it's creepy at all but I think it's massively over priced. Also local.

Movingonuppppp · 06/09/2017 17:25

bluntness100 I know the area well too and all of the houses in dorking are massively over priced. Not many of them sell and a lot try their luck then end up sitting on there for a year only to pull them off and re market them at a lower rate. And then still sit there (as they are still over priced). Dorking is lovely and has some huge houses but I think some people have delusions of grandeur.

Lol was wondering what I was missing so am glad I persevered to the end! Totally creepy, like he shouldn't be there Grin

Bluntness100 · 06/09/2017 17:31

I don't get a bad feeling looking at it, but clearly the kitchen, bathroom and three of the four bedrooms haven't been touched in a very very long time and need work.

The owner is only 67 by my maths, but the rooms mentioned above look like they are lived in by someone much, much older.

Being local I'd say it should be priced closer to the 800 k -850k mark.

stardust18 · 06/09/2017 17:33

It didn't creep me out really just needs modernising . Although the last picture made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. The creepy child in the doorway I don't like it

SnowiestMountain · 06/09/2017 17:34

Horrible!! And that cellar with the room inside 👻

WhoWants2Know · 06/09/2017 17:34

I love it. But it could be a little creepier.

RustyBear · 06/09/2017 17:34

This brings back memories- we used to live in Knoll Road, just off Coldharbour Lane nearly 40 years ago. It's a gorgeous location - The Nower, which is just the other side of the road is a beautiful place for walking with wonderful views. We moved there for DH's work and I was still looking for a new job, so I had plenty of time and not much money & spent hours walking there.
