How much did your removal firm cost?

Just that really... we have arranged slightly more mortgage than required to cover agent fees and removal company costs, then anything left will be for new carpets & paint. I think removal will be in the region of £2k (only moving a mile but 5 bed house so lots of furniture). My husband (rather naively I think) reckons only £1k. We're yet to receive quotes back - pretty straightforward move & we're doing our own packing beforehand. We're in the southwest.

Just over £1100 to pack and move from an average sized three bedroom house. New house is less than a mile away, in the midlands.

Heyx · 28/08/2017 19:49

I was quoted £1000 by one firm and £600 by a smaller firm so get a few quotes.

Heyx · 28/08/2017 19:49

That was to move from a large 4 bed bit less than a mile.

AccrualIntentions · 28/08/2017 19:51

North east (but used a national firm) - £700 for a 3 bed semi, including insurances and them doing all the packing. I'd have thought £1000 was doable unless there are significant regional price variations.

£750 to go 5 miles down the road from a 3 to a 4 bed. We packed ourselves but they loaded and unloaded on the day . Used a local company they were fab great personal customer service.

Iwant2move · 28/08/2017 19:58

£5500 to pack and move the contents of a six bed, 5500 square foot house in north west.
Two and a half days to pack and load the trucks and a day and a half to unload at the other end.
This was two weeks ago.

£800 for a 4-bed house, moving half a mile (London). Including packing.

£600 for boxes and moving us 1 or 2 miles down the road. 2 bed maisonette to a 4 bed house. We packed ourselves. Well worth it.

shushpenfold · 28/08/2017 20:31

£2500 for large 4 bed (plus shag loads in the double garage) to move 2 miles! £1k is having a laugh.

OhTheRoses · 28/08/2017 20:38

£2700ish. 6 bed house incl packing SW London to Surrey.

MajorClanger123 · 28/08/2017 21:55

Ahh ok thanks all - might come somewhere in the middle then -£1.5kish. We're pretty streamlined in what we keep at home - no big garages or much shed space (hence the move actually!) and we don't store anything in the loft at all, so it's literally what's in the house itself. Oh plus 3 kids bedrooms stashed with crap toys.

I'm Shock at these prices. We've been quoted £750 to move from the SE to South Wales - 3 bed terrace, just removals, no packing. Are we being scammed?

sdaisy26 · 28/08/2017 22:14

Just under £1500 including packing, moving 1/2 mile up the road. From a large (and with lots of storage) 3 bed.

sdaisy26 · 28/08/2017 22:15

The 2 local companies gave pretty much the same quote; I'm using the ones I liked more. Pickfords quoted almost 2k.

Zampa · 28/08/2017 22:17

£1.2K for one day of packing and one day moving, using 4 people and 3 lorries. Includes insurance for £25K of goods. This is from a local firm in the NW, moving 10 minutes drive away. A national company quoted us £2.8K. Quite a difference!

BewareOfTheToddler · 28/08/2017 22:18

We paid £1100 including packing and late key waiver thing to move a fairly full 2-bed flat (lots of books) about 40 miles away to a 3-bed semi. Half a day to pack, and they were with us for about 7 hours on moving day. They were the cheapest of the quotes we got but not by much.

HolaWeenie · 28/08/2017 22:24

£1350 to pack and move 3 bed house 5 mins down the road.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 28/08/2017 22:31

£1980 inc VAT to move a three bedroom house lot of stuff to another three bedroom house.

They packed us and moved us, we unpacked the boxes. That saved quite a bit of money.

They brought all the boxes in the house and of course all the furniture.

We were packed on Monday in Worcestershire, and moved in on Tuesday in Cambridgeshire as agreed.

DragonMamma · 28/08/2017 23:19

£900 for packing a 3 bed semi and moving 2 miles up the road. No white goods or wardrobes are being moved so no massive pieces of furniture and the beds are divan so fairly easy to shift.

harrietm87 · 29/08/2017 21:41

@soundsystem who did you use?

soundsystem · 29/08/2017 21:42

We had £1200 to pack and move a 2 bed full of stuff to a 3 bed. 1/2 a mile but that was 1 day packing and 1 day moving and included rebuilding bunk beds and wardrobes. Paying for the packing was possibly the best money I have ever spent!
