Kitchen colours - white cupboards, black surface or grey cupboards and light surface

We are having a grey wood effect floor and we cannot decide between the colour scheme.
The style will be Matt effect handless and mid range in terms of quality (independent supplier).

So which one. White cupboards with black work surface (with sparkles to give some interest) or light to mid grey with while surface (probably with slight marbling). All in quartz.

I have attached sample photos but we cannot decide and each want a different one. Kitchen will be medium sized and have an island and there will be a bright splash back.

What are the pros and cons of each colour scheme?

Just having my kitchen done we are going for white & black, but only because we couldn't afford the dark Grey units with the very expensive white worktop I liked! After seeing the combination I fell in love with I didn't like any of the cheaper white worktop.

So I like the Grey & white you've posted

Depends on your family - f you have young children white cupboards will probably drive you mental

But just going by the pictures I actually prefer the grey - the black and white looks a bit clinical, the grey looks warm and inviting

I have pale gray painted units with black granite that we only realized had sparkles when it was installed. I hate it. Wanted pale but was talked into the black by DH.

I feel it sucks all the light out of the kitchen and the bloody sparkles look like dust. And you can't just wipe over th granite - you have to polish it with a dry cloth or you see water marks as well as the sparkles/dust.

I'd love to change ours but we have a big kitchen with a huge island so it would be way too expensive.

About to have units repainted this year in a soft white though.

My son is 19 and will still leave fingerprints but on the fridge to get the beer when back from uni.
His son is 16 and not often round so no regular small kids.

I am not a huge fan of white cupboards and sparkly black surfaces. Think this look is starting to date now.

I much prefer your grey and white photo.

Also white cupboards with a silvery grey white work top looks good.

of the two i prefer grey cupboards and white tops. what about white cupboards and grey tops? It's not so stark or clinical.

I think grey cupboards will be the avocado suite of 15 years from now. I think they will really date. I'd go white cupboards because of that, but maybe a softer colour work surface instead of black?

White and black is the avocado suite now!

The grey is easier to live with. I have grey units on two walls with a large warm White Island. The work tops are granite - pale grey with black speckles. I think it is a more restful combination and not stark like black and white. Greys can be quite warm if you choose the right one and avoid the very blue toned ones. F and B do a good resume of their greys so you know which have warm tones.

I'm about to have a new kitchen. We are deciding on it all tomorrow.
We are thinking of dark grey for the floor cupboards are light grey for the wall cupboards.

I don't care if it looks dated in 15 years. Why should I have something I don't really like now so that it'll look not so bad in 15 years time when it needs replacing anyway.

It is my OH who wants black. I want to tone it down and like grey cupboards with pale work surfaces especially as was at a friend's last night and hers was grey with white surface.

I have read the responses to him and he is still trying to push for black...

He is putting up most of the money so I have to consider what he wants.

Yes. I let dh have his way on the black as I sort of picked everything else. And as bloody always when I let him decided I end up not liking it! We still argue about it a bit as he knows I hate it but he likes it.

I have white units, mid grey surfaces and a wooden floor. It looks lovely.

I was going to have the black sparkly surface but decided it was a bit harsh looking.

We are currently getting new kitchen fitted. We are having very dark grey island and a slightly lighter grey on other units with white quartz worktops

What are the pros and cons with sparkly black and likewise with white/very pale?

I'm not an expert by any means but I think black has had its day?

We have black at the moment that looks great when polished but is too dark, particularly for our kitchen which doesn't get much natural light. We're hoping to get a light grey doors with a white sparkly worktop.

We have grey cupboards that hide all the spills and marks and a black quartz worksurface that has a lovely finish but doesn't pick up fingerprints as easily as granite.

We're having a new kitchen and are going for grey cupboards with a pale white effect worktop and pale wood effect floor so I'd definitely go for that option!

Hate my black surfaces, they show up every tiny crumb.

That, though it seems to not make sense, white shows the dirt less that black

We've just bought our new kitchen and have gone for light grey handleless cupboards with an oak worktop, definitely didn't want black, it just seemed so harsh against the pale colours (even against white).

My inlaws have the white black combo and we have the grey white combo.

Obviously i now prefer the grey combo but we had actually been considering white units until i saw theirs. I think the contrast is really harsh and not.very relaxing.
