Kitchen colours - white cupboards, black surface or grey cupboards and light surface

We are having a grey wood effect floor and we cannot decide between the colour scheme.
The style will be Matt effect handless and mid range in terms of quality (independent supplier).

So which one. White cupboards with black work surface (with sparkles to give some interest) or light to mid grey with while surface (probably with slight marbling). All in quartz.

I have attached sample photos but we cannot decide and each want a different one. Kitchen will be medium sized and have an island and there will be a bright splash back.

What are the pros and cons of each colour scheme?

We have white cupboards etc around the edge and a dark grey island with white surfaces. In the awful event these may end up being the avocado suites of today they can easily be painted because they are wooden.!

@Allthebestnamesareused where did you get your bar stools if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you very much

I do like badger cat combination but not sure it would work in our space.
I also love allthebestnamesareused very much. I shall show him some photos and tell him what he likes.

Gah. I still can't decide 😖

Matt. Gloss. Painted. Not. Grey. White. ....

I can't even decide where to buy the cabinets or worksurfaces from.

What are all of yours and are you happy with them?

QuitMoaning · 19/06/2017 17:44

We have finally decided. Matt Grey handless cupboards and pale work surfaces with grey marbling.
You do get there in the end.

We too have gone for grey handleless units and white/grey marble worktops (sounds like it's a popular option). In the end we have ordered it from howdens as they were the cheapest (cheaper than diy kitchens which I was surprised by) after getting six different quotes).

AnnieAnoniMouse · 21/06/2017 16:28

Quit where are you getting yours from?

jenks. Have you gone for Matt or gloss? Which doors & worktops?

I was thinking about going to diy-kitchens today, but it's a 4 hour drive from here on a good day & given there was already an accident on the M25 early this am I decided against it. It's not the day to be sitting in traffic.

redladybird · 21/06/2017 16:31

Don't like grey units. White and black is not dated, it is the most popular colour choice so can't be that bad!

QuitMoaning · 21/06/2017 18:24

We are probably getting ours from an independent. We haven't yet made final decision but it is more expensive than from DIY kitchens but possibly better quality and certainly an easier option due to the project management they will provide.
They did our bedroom furniture and whilst not cheap, we got excellent value for money as the quality is phenomenal. And confidence in resolving issues matters to us due to the long hours we work, neither of us have time to project manage this.

That sounds sensible. I haven't found an independant around here who inspires any confidence. I don't suppose you are anywhere near me? Basingstoke/Reading.

I think my best option is a Matt door, but the guy in benchmarx admitted the quality of their Matt slab doors needed quite a bit of working on.

I really need to go to diy I suppose. It just seems mad to be driving 4 hours to see a kitchen showroom. I could pay to have a door sent, but I really want to see the overall effect & the cabinets.

Frankly, I just want to wake up tomorrow & it all be done!

namechangedtoday15 · 24/06/2017 20:37

Black & white very dated in my opinion. Everyone was having black granite maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Light work surfaces (quartz etc not laminate) make the whole room much lighter & contemporary.

minnymoobear · 24/06/2017 20:49

Just in the middle of our installation - dark frey matt handleless with lighter grey quartz worktop within bits and sparkles - love it!
Big kitchen with white paint and lots of natural light so will look good when finished

Hello *AnnieAnoniMouse.

We are in Hertfordshire but not sure how far they travel, I know they have done work in Central London. Today I chose my glass splash backs and they know my kitchen company and said they are the best around for miles with a superb reputation. I could get it cheaper but doubt i could get better value for money.

All local suppliers love working for him
