Which would you chose?

OK last time I ask about kitchen design I promise! After posting last week, feedback on here about fridge being far away and stuff I've come up with an alternative plan. Breakfast bar is wanted for one where to cook and bake with kids, dining table doesn't get used for this sort of stuff. Dining table is also bigger than what we will be having.

1 for me. I like the position of the breakfast bar so kids can see you easily if your cooking and baking. To the side on 2 I would imagine a lot of chair swinging and dangling to see beind them when your at the oven/fridge

Have you thought about wrapping storage around the end wall on the left ? That's a dead wall and you could wrap around the breakfast bar. When children are older you don't have to see them all the time!

Number 2. The fridge seems easier to get to. I like the breakfast bar by the wall as stuff can't get pushed off.

Number 2 just looks as if it flows better.

However, on inspection the layout of design number 1 is the same as my kitchen and I don't find it awkward at all! The difference is that I don't have a breakfast bar and I think the way it protrudes is putting me off design 1.

Number 2 has the best triangle. It is therefore the more practical and natural choice. But then duh is a carpenter, so I have somehow become imbibed with his obsession with triangles and design

I would go with 1, I think the breakfast bar is far more sociable and useable, a little bit more walking wouldn't worry me.

Fridge does seem to flow better in picture 2 but I don't think that a breakfast bar facing a wall works. It's not very sociable for other uses. Prefer the fridge in the more awkward place as the breakfast bar will work better.

Haha looks like a pretty even split!
I agree that the breakfast bar is more sociable on plan 1 but its actually nearer to me cooking on option 2. Plus I can fit a larder in on option 2. dh moaned abit about the oven being close to the boiler on option 2 (boiler is in left hand corner on back wall) because he does any electrical repairs on it himself and it is awkward to get too.
Argh decisions! Confused

I have heard all about this triangle thing but my fridge is like number 1 and it doesn't bother me one bit.

Do you need a breakfast bar or could you have storage underneath the work surface instead and just use the dining table? I'd go for max cupboard/storage space if it were me.

I agree with GU24. Do you really want the breakfast bar or do you have enough seating with the table and chairs?

You'd get a lot more cupboard space and work surface without.

Yes we need the breakfast bar, the kids (6 & 4) like to help prep tea, bake and come and talk to me while I'm coming and we dont do any of those things at the table. At the minute there is usually alot of arguing about steps and chairs and they cant reach to mix which means i have to hold the bowls in the air between them.

Option 2 for me. You could have to more "sociable" breakfast bar with option 2 as well if you wanted; just bring it out at right angles to the right-hand wall instead of parallel with it.

What's the distance between the breakfast bar stools and the table chairs? Could the breakfast bar on the right not turn 90 degrees so it's at right angles to the wall? I think if you're going to have a breakfast bar, it needs to be communal not looking at a wall.

First one. You will do most of your prep on the worktop between the hob and the oven.
If you go with option two you have to carry stuff from the fridge to the hob or from the hob to the oven. There is too much chance of something being spilled.

I looked at putting the breakfast bar at 90° but we wouldn't be able to extend the dining table.
Dh has come home and asked if we need the breakfast bar or if we could just put the oven on the right at the end and the fridge on the left. He's not bothered either way. We go on holiday tomorrow though so going to try not to think about it while we are away.

I understand you've had a few ideas before but I haven't seen the threads. My comment would be to ask if you're dead set on the double oven set in the tall unit? Personally I'd choose fitted under the worktop.
