where do you get your white goods from?

Hello

We are FTBs moving into our new property very soon.

We need to buy fridge, washing machine and dishwasher, so fairly big spend in one go. As we are moving from rented we dont really have any prior experience of buying white goods.

Any recommendation where to buy them from? We were thinking John Lewis just to ensure good quality and customer service but obviously they are fairly pricey in comparison to other retailers. We were also looking to AO.com but their reviews vary.

We dont intend to change kitchen any time soon, so we want white goods to last but at the same time dont want to pay over the odds.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

I don't find JL pricy. I like the 2 year guarantee you get, and their customer service is brilliant.
I don't advise you to buy anything from Whirlpool (Indesit, Hotpoint, there may be others in their family). Their response to the fire-causing tumble dryers has been appalling.

Have used both AO and John Lewis and both have been fantastic.
Couldn't fault the speed or the delivery service

TortoiseBeep · 08/05/2017 12:40

The reason John Lewis are pricy is because they don't tend to sell the lower end of the market items. We bought several items from AO and they were brilliant - we have quite a tricky path into our kitchen and some delivery people whinge but neither JL or AO batted an eyelid.

Really, you need to start deciding which brands you want to buy within your budget and then looking at what various retailers will do for you.

We've had a fridge, washing machine, dryer and a couple of TVs from Ao.com. We can't fault them. They were the cheapest, we had free delivery and they took our old washer and dryer away for no charge too.

RTKangaMummy · 08/05/2017 12:43

We buy ours from local EURONICS Shop

Easy to get them to deliver to your timescale (within 30 mins timeframe of your choosing cos they are local so only dependant on traffic from shop to your house),

personal service from local independent shop but with the backing of collective name,

if you need a repair they will come again according to your timescale

Usually have same team for repairs so they know your circumstances

Fair pricing

Another loving AO.com. Couldn't fault them.

I look for the appliance I want, then at prices and buy wherever is best.

PortiaCastis · 08/05/2017 12:45

A.O.com are excellent with good prices and delivery/installation if you need it

Gamtanner · 08/05/2017 12:49

A.O. are fab. Had quite a few things from them.

witwootoodleoo · 08/05/2017 12:53

I've used AO a few times and have been pleased. I've often been able to get cashback and find a discount code which clinched the deal over say John Lewis.

Saying that though we bought a dishwasher from John Lewis and were very impressed with how they dealt with a problem. Basically there was a fault/major design flaw that Miele wouldn't acknowledge was a problem. JL let us return it a few months in and swap it for a Siemens instead. I don't think AO would have done that for us.

ExplodedCloud · 08/05/2017 13:00

We've used AO a few times in the last couple of years and have no complaints.

User48627 · 08/05/2017 13:00

We got white goods from JL and AO.com both have been great and were the same on price.

Our cooker came from a local store as they had a discount offer and neither AO or JL did the Rangemaster we wanted in the colour we wanted.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/05/2017 13:02

Ao.com every time. I've purchased about ten appliances from them in the last couple of years.

I should be on commission because I'm always recommending them!

wonkylegs · 08/05/2017 13:04

In the past I would have said JL but they let us down with a bit of rubbish customer service when our last microwave broke. We've bought a few things including another microwave from AO and I can't fault them.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 08/05/2017 13:07

AO.com here too. In the last 12 months have bought TV, cooker and fridge/freezer from them and am extremely happy.

EssentialHummus · 08/05/2017 13:10

Another fan of AO here. The one time they screwed something up (not product related) I received an apology in writing from the CEO. I appreciate that it was auto-generated and signed by a minion, but I valued their approach.

tickleyourfancyyourself · 08/05/2017 13:15

We use a local showroom.
They'll try and come very close to JL prices but the advantage is they'll deliver when I want and if there are any problems they sort it out themselves.

Ookmybanana · 08/05/2017 13:16

I used Boots. Their kitchen appliances come via AO and I couldn't fault the service or price plus I got advantage card points.

bumpertobumper · 08/05/2017 13:21

The local independent shop on my high Street was 40 cheaper than ao for the same machine, delivered same day at a time that suited me ( no waiting in all day) and if I had been buying multiple appliances he would have done me am even better deal...
Worth talking to them!

Smidge001 · 08/05/2017 13:25

Appliances Online for me too. Excellent service, I would always go back to them.

RTKangaMummy · 08/05/2017 13:48

@bumpertobumper and @tickleyourfancyyourself that is the same experience as we have had from a local shop

We hate waiting in all day and actually when we did order afridgefreezer from AO they didn't arrive until hours after they were supposed to so we waited in for hours after our slot and customer service just said it will come today but didn't know when.

Local shop deliver to our timescale not some huge company timescale

Also get at same price

Give your local shop a chance

We used AO when we moved because we had to leave all our integrated appliances behind and we needed our appliances ASAP & AO delivered them all the day after we moved in (We only had 24hrs between exchange & completion due to long and complex circumstances).

They were fab - there wasn't an option to pay to have the tumble dryer fitted (paid for the fridge and the washing machine) but they did the tumble dryer for me too as I was 37 weeks pregnant and it was pretty clear we had a lot going on.... and they took all the rubbish away too. Couldn't fault them.

Svalberg · 08/05/2017 14:31

Agree 100% with RTKangaMummy. Local Euronics shop rang us up to say the item was in & delivered it to fit in with us on our moving in day - around 4 in the afternoon as I recall!

FreedomMummy · 08/05/2017 14:34

We got our kitchen redone a couple of years ago and got everything from AO.com and never regretted it. We had an issue with one appliance within warranty and they were really helpful.

PigletJohn · 08/05/2017 14:37

people say that JL is pricey, but if you watch carefully, you will find they have offers and reductions. Price match depends on identical model number and identical terms including delivery and guarantee (JL guarantee is I think usually two years).

I recall in the last few years having a Siemens last-years-model dishwasher at about half price; a Siemens fridge-freezer and a Bosch tumble-drier both with I think a £50 off promotion. I think they were both rebates on old machine, so they took the old one away for nothing and saved me a trip to the dump. It's just a discount really.
