Yellow kitchen cabinets - what colour walls?

I didn't chose the yellow, but it's what we have. It's a sort of strong but light yellow. The walls are currently a pale grey, what colour might work to freshen it up a bit? Would a soft green clash too much? Any ideas?

Green would be horrible.
I think it might be grey or grey. White or blue is a bit 80s tastic.

Thurlow · 19/04/2017 18:34

I was worried that grey would be the only colour... I wonder if a darker grey might work?

I think dark grey would work as would a really dark blue

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 19/04/2017 18:37

Soft blue or demure terracotta.

NapQueen · 19/04/2017 18:39

Teal?

Only as an alternative to the grey, which I think is the best choice.

Would you share a pic.

mando12345 · 19/04/2017 18:40

I think I would go for white and then style it with well chosen accessories.
Not a fan of yellow and grey myself.

BusterGonad · 19/04/2017 18:41

Purple?

Thurlow · 19/04/2017 20:27

Here's the hideous cupboards. I'm erring towards dark grey, though debating a sort of brown? It's not a big kitchen at all but it does get quite a lot of light.

Go on Pinterest and search for yellow kitchen cabinets for some inspiration

PoohBearsHole · 19/04/2017 20:32

They look like dorset cream colour - its quite nice :)
Will go away and have a think for you.

EJC85 · 19/04/2017 20:36

Grey would look really nice, I reckon.

Pinterest is your friend Wink

PoohBearsHole · 19/04/2017 20:36

Out of curiosity how big is your kitchen and do you want it to look smaller or bigger?

NapQueen · 19/04/2017 20:37

Oh yeah they are like a thick creamy colour. Duck egg blue?

wonkylegs · 19/04/2017 20:37

I quite like it with this pin.it/-imrKQe
Or this pin.it/YFtWmPP or pin.it/TZRCPfv or even yellow pin.it/8sV2lU_

NapQueen · 19/04/2017 20:38

If you really dont like the cupboards, could you chalk paint them?

PoohBearsHole · 19/04/2017 20:41

I'd go with a greyer blue colour or very pale duck egg blue possibly. Although if I am honest I'd probably get rid of the tiles which don't really match the cabinets and make choosing a colour more tricky.

Semaphorically · 19/04/2017 20:43

What about navy? Or white?
Pale blue/yellow looks a bit seaside cottage, and I think grey/yellow is a very modern chevrony look that doesn't really go with your tiles.

Quite like the third colour down with the yellow v

Just paint the cupboard doors whatever colour you want them. They are ok really. The navy with them is really nice, if your kitchen is big/light enough to take it. Or just paint them white/off white and choose whatever colour walls you fancy.

Thurlow · 19/04/2017 21:46

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I'll get a blue and a grey tester and see what might work.

We'll be getting a new kitchen at some point so i can live with the cupboards and tiles for now. I'm not the best at DIY so I'm worried that if I paint the cabinets they'll look awful Blush

That third blue could look really good!

I think the teal/petrol colour third from the bottom in winky's list would look really nice. Is it a sort of mustardy yellow? If so, it's definitely asking for a blue or grey that's on the greeny side.

EineKleine · 19/04/2017 21:54

I agree that grey is the obvious choice (in a good way) but the third colour down does work.

We've been very pleased with the results using cupboard makeover paint. If you hate the yellow, I think painting the cupboard fronts would be well worth it.

Miniwookie · 20/04/2017 08:42

I'm not keen on grey with them. I think the muted teal colours look nice, or even a yellowy cream.

BusterGonad · 20/04/2017 09:24

I think a country cream shade with duck egg blinds etc...it's the tiles that don't work so well with colours not the units imo. Wink
