Reviews online seem overwhelming positive.

Are they good at keeping on top of bad reviews or are they really as good as they appear?

Want to order but a little worried about not just being able to pop into a shop to sort any problems.

I've just had my DIY quote. Wickes and Howdens are far cheaper for a solid wood door - albeit not a bespoke painted colour.

Plus they don't do pantry cupboards in the size we need or a 900mm double Belfast sink.

We went to the DIY kitchens showroom today, it appeared that some of the display kitchens had been fitted well, but some of them hadn't, which was a bit off putting.

It was nice to go and look at everything all in one go. We haven't got finalised our design though and haven't had to get any input from the staff yet, so it will be interesting to price up and find out how easy it is to sort out the finer details.

Gobbolinothewitchscat - thanks for updating the thread. We're getting quotes from Wickes and Howdens as well so it'll be interesting to see what they all turn out to be.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 19/03/2018 19:22

Cant out how DIY kitchens are so much more expensive. We have quotes for the Howdens Tewkesbury and Wickes Tiverton that are far cheaper - 7.5k for 30 units etc as opposed to 11k for DIY who haven't even quoted for the pantry.

I know we have been offered a good deal by Wickes and Howdens as we have haggled a lot. Wickes are also giving a further reduction once we get the fitters quote to cover the fact they are providing flat pack units

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 19/03/2018 19:23

I assume if must be the bespoke paininting which Howdens and Wickes don't offer

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 20/03/2018 16:41

Howdens have come back to us today with a quote for 7k including extra height units. £385 for cupboard innards including two magic corners and pull out shelves in one cupboard. We also have a pantry and 3 sets of pan drawers. This is in Tewksbury. We also get a free aeg dishwasher. 30 units in total. All other aeg appliances price matched with the cheapest online

Just wanted to update as it is worth going to howdens/wickes etc. Just waiting for Benchmarx and one other independant

I am at a total loss here as we seem to be the only people in the world who find DIY kitchens extortionate! Just wanted to update as unless

mum2015 · 20/03/2018 20:13

Which style from diy kitchens did you price? How does it compare to the wickes and howdens?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 20/03/2018 21:28

All solid wood. DIY agreed it was their closest equivalent. Wickes and Howdens dont do bespoke painting but I dont want that. I explained to the DIY guy on the phone and he said that wasnt really relevant and to just pick a colour from the list.

We’re considering going with DIY kitchens or units online but can’t make a trip to either showroom...just wondering if anyone who’s bought a kitchen from one of them is near Cambridge so I could pop in and have a look? Cheeky I know! TIA

I’ve heard fantastic reviews from them too so went ahead and ordered. However I received my kitchen on 17th July cornflower blue Norton, and had nothing but problems. Their online planner refused to let me add a 450 unit saying it wouldn’t fit - I’m not an expert so who am I to argue - now it’s all here it clearly fits with room to spare (my measurements were all correct) so I now have to wait until mid September for the correct size to be made as apparently that’s my error so a ‘new’ order. Multiple items are broken, chipped, missing or have paint drips all of which are being replaced in dribs and drabs over the next 14 working days (apparently) all of which is irrelevant as I can’t finish the kitchen until my 450 unit turns up in September. Overall I wish I’d just gone to Howdens, at least they have it all in stock. I wouldn’t recommend at all.

Our order was missing a few bits, including a side panel for the larder. It was going to hold up our renovation and put back our second fixing, costing us money, so DIY arranged for one of their staff to bring it down to London in a van the next day. Now that's good customer service! So yes, I can highly recommend them.

Loudestcat14 · 28/07/2021 19:53

Whoops, just realised this is a zombie thread! Still stand by DIY doing a great job though.

Panickingpavlova · 28/07/2021 20:18

I'm interested km also pretty set on DIY!

looking at other threads from a couple of years ago when we were looking at getting our kitchen DIY kitchens had got some problems with new machinery which caused them a few problems we got our kitchen from DIY last year and all i can say is we were very impressed with the service from them , the price of the kitchen, and the quality of the units , yes delivery is expensive but the units come ready made so you save on the fitter putting flat packs together so to me it was worth the extra and on the money we saved over wickes price paid for our plasterer and fitter this was our kitchen before the tiling went in so all nice and brand new but 12 months later it still looks the same as these pics

We used them this year, after reading reviews on mumsnet and Google. They were brilliant - we ended up doing the kitchen right in the middle of lockdown and the customer service was amazing. Even the delivery drivers knew the office staff by name, and it felt like a really personal service.

HintofVintagePink · 29/07/2021 03:39

We used this company to fit out our utility room as their pricing was so much more competitive than anyone else’s. The cupboards were a perfect match to the Wickes units we had installed in the kitchen 6/7 months previously, except the quality was so much better!
Two tall unit sides did arrive snapped unfortunately, but were replaced without quibble.
