Anyone replaced their bath with a shower cubicle in main bathroom?

If you have, any regrets?

With six of us in the house with only two bathrooms (shower cubicle in downstairs cloakroom) we are seriously considering this option.

No one has baths in this house, ever. We all shower once or twice a day and having planned it out to scale it means I can some nice modual furniture with storage in there.

The only issue will be if you come to sell it. Many families, particularly those with young kids want baths, and the thought of renovating a bathroom can put folks off. However if uoure planning to stay there a long time, then it's good to make it fit your lifestyle.

Yes took out the old bath and replaced with a wet room.
Far quicker if many using the same facility.

We've done this at each house and had no problem selling to families. It worked well when DT's were little so can't see anyone else having problems with it.

We did and personally I regret it. We hardly ever used the bath before it was taken out but now we don't have one I am always longing for a long hot soak!

When looking to buy, I saw this as a negative. We'd have the extra expense and what if a standard bath doesn't fit? If you are thinking if selling at any point, don't do it.

How is it different from having a shower over the bath?

I recently looked at a house with only showers and no baths and that was the only reason I didn't buy it.

Yes and then after two years admitted it was a mistake and put a bath back in!

I wouldn't buy a house with just a shower, I much prefer to soak. We are tentatively looking to downsize at present and I have ruled out a number of properties for this reason. If you are not intending to sell for yonks it doesn't matter so much, though you might have to think about making an allowance to enable bath to be put back in if you do.

I would do it! Have not had a bath in at least 20 years and will probably never have one again. No one in my family bathes; we all prefer to shower.

I ditto what OCsock says. Although it sounds nice and I could have, I haven't had a bath for years and years. Showers are the way to go. I think more and more people think like this.

If you might sell soon-ish, I would say not, would put off any young families and anyone who likes a bath (my dh, dad, mostly men ime!). Otherwise go for it!

When we decided to replace the bath with a wet room, we thought as to how often anyone had a bath rather than a shower - never! When the DT's were tiny we showered with them until they could stand up on their own. I hate showers over baths so everywhere we have lived, we've taken the bath out.

I converted our ensuite into a wet room but not sure I would take out the main bath.

I have had this dilemma and decided to go with the shower over the bath option. I took the view that if I ever wanted to sell then a family with young children would want a bath.

I love a bath and definitely wouldn't buy a house without a bath. Deal breaker for me.

We don't have the room for a separate bath and shower so I'm considering a Japanese soaking tub and shower instead...

Some friends have just sold their house which only had a shower in the bathroom. It took much longer to sell than other similar properties and the price was a bit lower. If you're not planning to move and it suits your lifestyle then do it if you want. When you do eventually sell though you may end up needing to put a bath back in. I personally would not buy a house without a bath.

I bottled out and regret it, we had a shower built next to the bathroom in the main bedroom. Both the shower and the one in the bath are the exact same but the teenagers always want to use our bedroom walk in shower.

My Mum did it as she finds it too hard to clamber in and out of a bath, but it would put me off buying a house if there were no bath, as I like to spend long afternoons soaking my bones with a mug of tea and a book.

Only an issue if/when you want to sell.

Families with young children will almost always want a bath.

Having had to do it for quite a while when dd1 was very small, I can testify that trying to 'bath' a very little one in a shower tray is a major PITA.

We did it this, we had a large rectangular shower and a huge baby bath still. We moved when the youngest was 8 and she could still have a "bath" in the baby bath in the bottom of the tray!

Was fine when we sold but it was the SE where cheaper properties sell quickly. You can always put a bath back in to sell so I would consider designing the bathroom so it would be easy to put a bath back in.

My DP’s did this too scaryteacher because they were both finding it hard to climb in and out of the bath. It may make their house harder to sell in the future but it suits their needs right now and means they will be able to stay in their own home longer.

OP- I think you do what suits you right now but accept it may affect the sale of your house in the future.

Personally I like showers over baths - we've had them in both bathrooms for many years.

I shower a lot more often than I bath, but after a nice long soak I will always rinse myself off under the shower afterwards.

Best of both worlds.

Only caveat is that any guest with mobility problems will find them difficult, but we've only had one of those in 30+ years.

I have only a shower and i only miss baths every weekend. I have even booked hotel rooms just to have a bath..Sad
