What is the new magnolia paint?

Whilst our move isn't looking like it's going to happen any time soon - well not in the next year, I can still dream...

We're hoping to move into a brand new house but I have no idea what paint to put on the newly plastered walls. I want something to slap on right through the house until we know exactly what we want to do with each room.

Way back in the early 2000s we moved to this house and quickly slapped on Magnolia through the whole place as it was dreadfully decorated but I know that's not the done thing now... So, what generic colour do we put throughout the house?

Things to consider; the kitchen is likely to be light oak, our furniture is mainly light wood stuff, the sofa is duck egg but has many throws.

I literally will just paint the whole place one colour whilst we get settled!

Any thoughts!?

We painted ours white with a subtle grey hint but I see that sulus timeless is frequently mentioned and recommended on here

I have Laura Ashley Twine in a few rooms. I love it. It is very easy to put on, quite rich. And it's usually included in an offer at Laura Ashley shops, which always seem to be running one offer or another these days. I have it in a room which is predominantly rich beige, bamboo, red and chocolate. And in another room which has greens and creams. If would look great with duck egg blue.

So I 100% love Dulux timeless and had it all through my old house. However i've just done my new place in pure brilliant white as a 'place holder' for when I have more time to think about decoration. Really loving the PBW look.

We've got Dulux Almond White through most of our house.

I recently moved in to a house that was newly painted white throughout. I thought I'd hate it but now we're in I LOVE it.

The sales assistant in the paint shop said dulux natural hessian and timeless were the biggest sellers.

If it is newly built, the walls may still be damp. While they dry out, you should use a non-vinyl porous paint, such as Dulux Trade Supermatt.

It is available readymixed in white and magnolia, but you can order it mixed in a vast range of colour at a higher price. Being porous, it is not very durable, so you will need to repaint, perhaps within a year or so. IMO pale colours are better while you are deciding how to decorate. The Hessian, Cotton and Calico colours blend and you can do a whole house in only a few colours, as long as contiguous rooms/hall and landing are different, it will not look too bland.

I've done the same as Yello previously used Timeless several times (save for a couple of taupe disasters) and have now used pure white throughout in my current house - so much easier and gives you a chance to get to know the house/light before making a decision. It's not nearly as stark looking as I thought it might be.

We have Natural Hessian in downstairs loo - to me it looks like we put lining paper up and never painted it can't be bothered changing it

Elephants Breath - in my sitting room, it's definitely beige / mushroom rather than grey.

Just had extension and open plan diner and new bedroom above are pure white. Thought it would be temporary but actually really like it and will probably stick with it.

I do like grey tones rather than cream neutrals - we've used alot of Dulux Pebble Shore around the house - really like that.

Timeless is indeed a timeless colour

Dulux White Chiffon. It's a sort of cuddly white. We slathered more or less our whole house in it, everywhere that we wanted white anyway. It gives kind of a warm glow. Very hygge.

we have Timeless and natural calico downstairs but for some reason I'm loving white upstairs!
