Has anyone ever moved house? I need your help!

Hi all,

I was wondering if I can get some help! I'm currently starting to move house with myself and my 4 year old daughter.

I am also going to be writing a blog of my progress on our own since the father has left and how our move and new life is going!

Could you let me know if you have moved house, what you found difficult, what you did/did not know, what unexpected costs were involved, what you really wanted to find out etc...

All advice would be appreciated!

I agree with tigger-it feels like you're wanting material for your blog. It would be helpful if you shared a bit more about your circumstances.

I previously split up from my partner so we have sold the house. I'm living in temporary accommodation but looking for somewhere to buy at the moment.
I just want to know what other people would recommend when moving. Is there anything that has gone wrong or right with anyone else's move?

If you're buying, the very first thing you need to do is find a suitable house in your budget. You can't really make any plans beyond that.

Do you know how much you've got available to you and where you might start looking?

I thought the point of a blog was to brain dump cathartically write about your own experiences, not anybody else's?

I could tell you plenty about our move but it probably wouldn't be relevant to you - E.g. What went right and what I'd recommend - DH taking a week off work, what went wrong - erm, nothing, what we found difficult - unpacking whilst trying to stop the DC arguing.

I think you need to work out whether you are looking for advice for your own move or whether you're looking for material for your writing, and you also need to work out what you're writing. Other people's experiences will be useful material if you're being paid to write articles, useless for a blog.

Op is sounding increasingly desperate to get others stories. Why is that such a big deal to you op?

There are loads of threads on here where people have been given tips for moving day etc. Have a search.

Can't say I'd find a blog post on a house move THAT interesting unless there was some sort of funny or interesting hiccup.

Every time we've moved/bought/sold has been pretty straightforward, you'lol be fine OP...

Are you diy move or employing movers?

Are you packing yourself or getting the movers to do it? Are you unpacking ot using the movers.

Is your mythical property a flat or a house? Does it have a lift or stairs? What floor is it on?

Does it have easy parking for a lorry or will you be blocking the road for some period of time?

Really untill you find somewhere to move to there is no one that can offer advice. There is no 10 easy to avoid moving problems for every single move.

Intact I suspect I'm not alone in feeling a little suspcious as to your intentions in starting this thread.

Find a property, employ a solicitor to do searches etc. Exchange contracts then come back if you genuinely want help and advice.

Probably best if you ask specific questions.

user people have said they'll answer questions you've got. You haven't asked anything except "what went right or wrong when you moved?" which is do broad it's difficult to give any meaningful answers that will help you.

You need to find a house first then plan the move.

Ok, I will make this a little clearer for everyone to understand without being so condescending...

I am buying a new house, in which I will purchase from obtaining a mortgage from the bank. As I have not been through this process in many years I would like to know things to look out for when people are moving as I know it can be quite difficult.

If I know what people found difficult, I can avoid this for when I move.

Hah! Ummm, still pretty condescending

Definitely hire packers, we spent more on packers than estate agent fees but so worth it. (Our estate agent fees were only £700 though)
