Help!! what is Bramley Leeds like?

Me and DP are looking to move to Leeds for his work with our v young daughter. I found a lovely house in Bramley and heard it can be a little rough in some parts, but other parts can be perfectly nice!! The house looks over Bramley park near the A657. Does anyone know if this is a safe part of Bramley?

I'm not sure on that particular part, but people are right with some parts being nicer than others! Does it have to be Bramley? What's your budget? Pudsey, farsley and rodley are also nice if you want to be that side of Leeds.

Unfortunately we will be renting for a little while. DP is set on Horsforth but I just happened to find this house which seems perfect for us! If I could put the house in Horsforth I think he would be immediately sold on it but is turning his nose up a little at Bramley. I just want to make sure I'm safe walking around with DD

Farsley is much nicer.

I'm also not sure. It's quite a mixed area so even if it's a nice street there will be a rough area close by.

The Tesco shopping centre nearby feels very run down and downmarket (Greggs, betting and pawn shops) and most of the better off locals actually shop in the Aldi a short distance away.

Doubt you'll get many positive comments on here because it'll never be the best area of Leeds and the only acceptable places in Leeds on here appear to be over by Adel/Chapel Allerton/Meanwood etc.

But if it works for you, it could be nice enough depending exactly where you are.

I don't have any issues with Council/HA properties and live in an ex LA house a few miles away myself, but I think Bramley might be one area where a good guide might be private housing = better than council estate when judging an area. When we were looking we dismissed ex council houses in Bramley but other areas in Leeds the council housing was absolutely fine.

Agree, it's a very mixed area, so a couple of streets could be fine but then it's not so nice. Another vote for Farsley particularly with a young child, Farsley has a lot of lovely young families.

Is there anywhere else in Leeds that is nice? We also wouldn't mind being in a Bradford postcode as long as it still is relatively close to Leeds with good transport links

There's some lovely areas but a lot also depends on your budget. Is your DH working in Leeds centre? Will your DC be going to school? What's your budget?

Are you wanting a house rather than a flat/ apartment? Two/three bedrooms?

Speaking generally, without this info, Pudsey, farsley, rodley are all nice areas, more to do in Pudsey or farsley as Rodleys quite small. Horsforth and calverley also both nice but a fair bit pricier.

North Leeds is your most expensive area, chapel allerton, roundhay, moor allerton etc and unless you've got a huge budget there's some not so nice areas that are far worse than choosing an average-nice area of one of the other parts.

Otley and yeadon are both nice I've heard, but don't know enough about them.

Meanwood is up and coming, but depends on area again. Guiseley and rawdon are also nice but more on the expensive side.

Good train links from horsforth, new Pudsey, headingley/ kirkstall.

Headingley is very student orientated but kirkstall has a fair bit of new housing and a new shopping centre.

The commute from Otley, Yeadon and Guiseley into leeds city centre is horrendous

Yes DP works in the city centre, close to the train station so hoping for somewhere with good network links. Our budget is around 800pcm. Schools won't yet be an issue since DD is yet to be born lol. We just want to be somewhere nice and friendly. Good links to the motorway would also be handy since we are both from Nottingham!

Best motorway links are from south leeds

Look at Morley

Like anywhere there are good and bad areas but the new build estates are all nice -2 minutes onto the motorway, trains take 10 mins into the city centre and there are plenty of buses

Good local facilities and some nice parks

Pudsey or Rodley much better for family living than Bramley. There's not a lot going on there. Transport links are really good though!

What about Stanningley? Hit or miss?

It has a nice bypass 😁

They've been digging stanningley up for the last year to create a super cycle way or something

Nicer than Bramley but not brilliant

Look at Airedale and Wharfedale - both have good rail links into Leeds and have lots of nice towns and villages. If you look at the rail route map, most places on those too lines are worth a look:

Oh and right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales if that sort of thing appeals

Another vote for Pudsey here. I really enjoyed it on maternity leave - there are loads of friendly baby groups as well as the leisure centre, lovely park, library, big m and s etc. Plus the doctors has a drop in which was great with a baby! Cafe lux which is centred around the surgery is a great place for going for a coffee/baby group etc. We actually moved from fancy north Leeds for the gorgeous (and much cheaper) Victorian housing stock. Pudsey isn't posh but has a lot going for it and more and more people who are priced out of Horsforth etc are moving in. Horsforth is actually pretty similar in terms of proud old Yorkshire town swallowed up by Leeds - it is basically Pudsey in it's Sunday best!

I'd go south Leeds if you want to be close to M way and close to city center. £800 pcm is a healthy budget for Leeds.

North of Leeds is a PITA to get into the city center except by rail during rush hour.

Apperley Bridge has a BD postcode and a new train station!

I grew up in North Leeds. Cookridge to be precise and I think it's a great areas

I have heard Apperley Bridge is nice, do you know how long the commute is into Leeds (both by car and train)?
Pudsey does sound ideal though!!

On the train it's 25 minutes

In the car in theory you could do it in about half an hour at 3am with a following wind
At rush hour I'd be more than doubling that time
