Opinions please: sinks in bedrooms

We've just moved house and two of the bedrooms have sinks in them - one has a vanity unit. It's an Edwardian house and I don't know if there would have been sinks in those rooms originally or if they are a later addition (quite a grand house built for someone wealthy at the time). Anyway, I think they are pretty naff, but what does anyone else think?

We have a family bathroom on the same floor as these two bedrooms, a downstairs cloakroom with loo and there's an attic bedroom with ensuite so we are not short of facilities!

My DM's fairly grand late Victorian house has washbasins in two of the bedrooms. I think it's relatively normal, and good for a guest room particularly.

They are generally regarded as naff now and are probably a modernisation rather than original but they are very useful

We also have an Edwardian house, had planned a master ensuite but just couldn't get the plans right, either the bedroom proportions looked wrong or the bathroom wouldn't fit well, etc. We gave up and had a nice set of cupboards built in with a basin on top and a freestanding tap next to it. It has been worth its weight in gold over the years (we have 4 of us with 1 family bathroom, 1 separate loo and a downstairs loo too besides that)

I think they are very useful, but I incline towards having them in a vanitory with a fold-down lid. The lid has to be box-shaped to cover the taps.

Then you can treat it as a dressing table and it looks better.

Otherwise it could be concealed in a run of built-in wardrobes.

I understand that in halls of residence, they are prone to blocked waste pipes because people pee in them and it forms uric acid crystals.

We currently have a sink in our guest room which is great as they don't have to traipse to bathroom for teeth cleaning etc. When we refurb we will get sinks in all bedrooms as there is only one upstairs bathroom and 4 bedrooms. I think it will be invaluable when the children are teenagers!

I think they're naff but potentially very useful. Although having said that, I remember in halls at university it was common for the lads to pee in their bedroom sink at night rather than leave the room and walk to the bathroom. Most of them did it. I don't think ds1 would as he has lovely manners but ds2, I'm not so sure.

I think they are probably original and I love them the house I grew up in had them, and they are really useful.

I quiet like them. I had one in my room as a child and like others say it's actually very handy. Meant I did all teeth in there, make up and so kept all that stuff in bedroom, could top glasses up with water etc.

I would make them nice with storage around and Mirror

Don't like them at all, and would put me off buying a house. I doubt they are original.

We have them. Fabulous when DCs were babies. Less lovely when it dawned on me that the sound of the tap running wasn't DS brushing his teeth again at midnight.

They date from the days when most people didn't have a bath or shower every day, just a wash, and there would have been just one bathroom for a family of 6 or more. (And usually only one loo indoors, though probably one outside the back door for the maid/gardener/skivvy.)
But if there is plenty of room in the bedrooms I would keep them - they can certainly be useful.

When we moved house in about 84 I had a sink in my new bedroom. As a teenager I thought it was fantastic!

I agree they're naff.

I don't see the point. you have to go to the bathroom for a wee, unless you use the sink, so why bother.

If have to get rid of them.

Bear - but just sink is helpful sometimes. In a four person household, if all need to be up and out it mean step can use bathrooms to shower/ toilet, and the other two can use sinks for teeth and makeup save hogging bathroom

I still don't get it- it takes no time to brush your teeth and you don't need a sink to put on your make up.

I'd hate a bedroom with a sink in it.

Not very fashionable at the moment, but HUGELY useful. They were in the house my parents bought when we were in our teens, and INCREDIBLY useful to be able to do all the things you only need a sink for, without hogging the bathroom(s). Take up far less space than an extra bathroom.
I guess the answer depends on how many people you have fighting for the bathroom at once, but I'd love a house with sinks in bedrooms.

I need a sink to take make up off. I wash it off and use a wash cloth. Also wash face before applying fresh makeup
