Basically that. We live in Stirling area in 2 bed semi. Was gobsmacked at the quote but maybe I am being unrealistic. However our front windows are rotting so we need to get them done.

With vat, installed? I don't think it sounds like extortion. Get 3 quotes, then you will know

How big are they. We just paid £1290 for 4 of varying sizes but that was a cash deal.

Excluding fitting. A mate did that for us.

Is this for standard upvc double glazed windows? If so, unless they are huge, I'd say it's expensive. However I'd expect that price from Everest but not from local suppliers who manufacture their own windows.

That sounds very expensive unless the windows are enormous. Was it a big company who quoted? If so, definitely get a local fitter to quote, I'd expect that to come in around £1600-£1700 unless there's a load of brickwork to be done as well.

For UPVC double glazed windows, 2 small, 3 normal sized including fitting. They're a national (Scottish) company and there isn't a load of brickwork to be done. Hmm from your responses am thinking we definitely need to get other quotes.

We're just having seven windows done at just over £1000 each then there's vat and fitting on top, although they are solid oak rather than upvc

Think your price doesn't sound too bad but get a few more quotes if you aren't sure

Mine were upvc dbl glazed. Even double the price it's cheaper than your quote.

Have you thought about measuring and ordering directly from the manufacturer and then paying a local contractor to install? It can work out a lot cheaper. You need to be confident of your measuring skills though

If this is a national company, they'll often ring up later with a "special offer" that slashes the initial quote. Their fitter was so rubbish I'll be using someone local another time anyway.

Don't go with a national company, you'll get a better deal with a small independent glazier and the quality will probably be better.

Plus you won't get repeated nuisance calls and visits for the next 15 years trying to sell you more of their shit

£3200 sounds a fair bit but it depends on the size of the windows and the difficulty of fiiting and the quality.

We paid nearly £5k for 4 windows, composite front, back door and set of patio doors UPVC.

Local independent - we got 3 other quotes and they were all fairly similar.

It's pointless comparing prices with people who've bought off the internet and had mates fitting them.

Our windiws including frames cost about 800 each (Victorian style sash windows approved for conservation area)

Very very expensive. We had 9 new windows and a back door for £4,000 including fitting and brickwork.

Definitely get more quotes and avoid the large national companies. It's much better to get a local firm in.

Doesn't sound bad, all in, to be honest. Depends on the windows, of course. And it goes without saying to get another quote or two.

Cost us just under £2000 for 5 windows and a door for our 2 bed terrace, fitted at mates rates, btw. Windows are basic UPVC with vents in some of them, no adornments.

I have just today bought a upvc window 1200 x 1200 for £140 + vat (thank you Desmond) we will fit it ourselves. Apparently, haven't done it before but dp seems to think we can. So that seems expensive to me. Fencing on the other hand .... Eating is over rated right?

I KNOW Oreo! Fencing is extortionately expensive! Both for the materials and the fitting. We did it last year and it made me want to cry a bit.

Have to admit I really was taken aback by the fencing prices! I've got 2 houses to re fence this week after the weekend, I could have cried when the timber yard gave me the price

I looked at timer yards, spoke to my contractor about what he could get at trade, looked around. Cheapest I found was Wickes, and they've been absolutely fine.
