Please appraise this house - in Beaconsfield

We're looking for a family house, near the station - the key is low maintenance, since dh hates diy/gardening etc and so we have to pay for almost everything to be done for us. Ridiculously lazy, I know, but I just feel swamped by a larger house.
Does this look worth a viewing?

Not really walking to station either, are you parking at the station every day?

It's plot size is small though (postage stamp garden is fine with me). We have friends in Beaconsfield old town and they normally taxi to and from station - dh would be ok with that.

It's huge. and lovely, and if you can afford it, then no doubt you can afford to get a handy man in, and a gardener too, for that matter.

Not sure why you are asking, really. Stealth boast, perhaps? Hmm

At the moment, it's our outside space that's costing too much and there are priorities for anyone's money. We do have gardener and handyman comes but dh bitches over every penny.
I'm not convinced about that wood on the front, tbh.....and also that I'm missed something obvious

The amount you'd spend on stamp duty would surely pay for a handy man and a gardener to come once a fortnight for a day for the next twenty years!

The wood on the front is not low maintenance! Costly to pay someone to treat. All brick would be better.

Interesting point pwp. I do know Beaconsfield and love it, plus I have other reasons for wanting to be right near the M40. Other houses in the same bracket seem to be a fair bit older and more 'established', which doesn't suit me so well.

I live in a village not far away.

This house is cheap for Beaconsfield because:

  • It is in an estate
  • It is new build.
  • Worse, it is new build in the estate style not McMansion style.
- It is right next to Butlers Court school. Noise. Traffic.
  • A good part of the other housing nearby is normal terrace not huge posh.

You will be sneered at by the many snobs of Beaco.

Have you considered telling your husband to shut the fuck up instead of moving?

do future neighbours a favour and don't buy a place with a large garden that you aren't going to maintain.

plenty of big houses on postage stamps about - go for one of those.

I had noticed the school, but being gated, maybe you wouldn't get parking from parents. I don't mind the style, tbh.

That wood cladding is going to need regular maintenance.

If you know Beaconsfield well, you know that it is a good half-hour walk to all of the useful shops in the New Town as opposed to the pretty ones in the Old Town. It's a short drive but the traffic can be ridiculous, especially at the drop-off and pick-up times for Davenies.

Do you have DC already in schools nearby? Are state schools a consideration? It's very handy for Beccy High if you have bright girls.

I'm slightly stunned by the idea of a taxi to and from the station every day but to be fair, this probably does work out cheaper than parking in the station car park.

It is not near the station! It is quite a hike from the station. It is quite a hike from Waitrose which is adjacent to the station. The separate dining room and kitchen would put me off - but at the right price I would knock through and have one large room. It is not the best part of Beaconsfield for residential snobs. However, I do not think it is a bad place to live and the Old Town is very handy for restaurants, bars etc.

At about £1.25m there are some more attractive houses in my opinion. Still a bit of a hike from the station, but in much better areas of the town. Also a brand new one - no maintenance at all for a bit!

Where is considered the best part of beaconsfield then? I thought the old town was most desirable?

I would think the old town is the better part in terms of property, but it can be a trek to the station. It's a beautiful town; my son lives in the new town as he's a student there.

The station is quite close as crow flies but over a mile if you're not a crow

Judging by the floor plan, the main bathroom and the downstairs WC do not have windows. That would out me off.

The Georgian house? Its lovely, but kitchen tiny for entertaining, no garden to speak of, parking issue.....
