We're looking for a family house, near the station - the key is low maintenance, since dh hates diy/gardening etc and so we have to pay for almost everything to be done for us. Ridiculously lazy, I know, but I just feel swamped by a larger house.
Does this look worth a viewing?

All that timber would be a nightmare unless it's up can made to look like timber; the boards on the eaves look like they're peeling now.

Is it double glazed? I know it says modern so you would think it was but it's not explicitly mentioned.

Don't know about the area at all so can't comment on location but the timber, leaded light windows, flashings & guttering don't seem low maintenance to me!

Do you mind me asking how much your gardening costs annually? I suppose the only problem with a smaller garden is your loosing your privacy, also is it east facing? if so id check how much sun the garden gets.

I know others have said, but that house is nowhere near the station. If this is a main requirement you should look elsewhere.

ImperialBlether · 02/09/2015 23:06

It's 1.2 miles according to the AA Route Planner. Twenty minute walk in the morning would be good for the OP's husband!

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 02/09/2015 23:14

I can't get past the price tag. £1M+ for a five bed house?? thank God I don't live in Beaconsfield . That would be more like £350k tops in my neck of the woods.

ImperialBlether · 02/09/2015 23:16

Well, that's the Home Counties for you. 25 minutes from London, lovely town... it's obviously going to be expensive. Up here in the NW prices are very different!

AesopsMables · 02/09/2015 23:26

Ooh, I live very very close to this town OP.

If you want to move in, and put a lick of paint on then this would be fine, and yes it is a walk for DH to station but downhill in the morning at least!

Do you have children? If so then schools need to be taken into consideration I am guessing?

I would seriously negotiate on price, there are so many similar properties like this in the same area and this one looks vacant.

PrimalLass · 03/09/2015 11:38

I can't bear leaded windows, so it would be a no from me regardless of everything else.

The Georgian house is on a very busy road (A40) with constant traffic jams. It is, however, in a very attractive area which is Beaconsfield Old Town, but most people live in the roads around the station and the really expensive roads out towards Penn where £1m will probably buy a garage. Beaconsfield is one of THE places to live in Bucks and hence prices are high.

What is the norm elsewhere in the country does not apply to Beaconsfield or Gerrards Cross - another place I would consider. Lots of the houses in Beaconsfield are very attractive and on very attractive residential roads. These houses attract a massive premium. Some houses, such as the one posted by the OP, are less desirable because of location and quality of house (for Beaconsfield). It is handy for Davenies School though and could be improved.

There may be lots (not that many in my view) of houses available in the area at the same price, but none are very close to the station. I have checked. If you go as far away as High Wycombe you are looking at a very different area. There are a couple of others that appeal to me around Beaconsfield in this price bracket and benefit from greater architectural merit but are still some distance from the station. Penn would be just as expensive. There is more value for money the further you are away from a station and in less posh surroundings. OP's husband could get a bike of course.

Karcheer · 03/09/2015 17:28

Gerrards cross would be good for op dh as the fast train to marylebone is 18mins.

NicoleWatterson · 03/09/2015 17:45

I was going to suggest Gerrards cross and the chalfonts. You might have a bit more choice with the specifics that you want. If I remember rightly denham is on the same line as Chalfont? So its worth baring that in mind from a route plan point

NicoleWatterson · 03/09/2015 17:47

Sorry it's Gerrards cross station isn't it
