It was sold a couple of years ago but it needed work then. Now it's back. SO GORGEOUS! Anybody want to lend me about 2.2 million?

I didn't like it. I liked the outside, not the in.

pearlgirl · 01/08/2015 22:45

really is it the most recent Forsythe saga box set ?- if it is I spent a lot of my childhood in the country house with the sweeping lawn in front of it and the house this thread is about reminds me of it.

ReallyNotAMorningPerson · 01/08/2015 22:53

Pearl it's the 2002 version with Damien Lewis, Rupert Graves etc in it.

Do you mean the house that Soames had built by the architect (Ioan Gruffud)??

Totally lust after this house

"Yeah because your standard artexer can do this:"

You make it sound like its an amazing masterpiece. Sorry, but I can't see the big deal. It looks horrible. To me anyway!

Also thanks for bringing that unicorn in the living room to my attention. Bloody hell. They have a unicorn on the wall. Confused..

pearlgirl · 01/08/2015 22:57

really yes that series - haven't watched all of it but think that it is Soames house - it has a big galleried ball room. Couldn't watch all of it as it brings back too many memories of my dad who is no longer alive and of old friends - all happy but I would have cried too much

Oblique27 · 01/08/2015 22:59

Love the second one, good location too ( so long as work not an issue!), not so keen on the first, sorry

ReallyNotAMorningPerson · 01/08/2015 23:02

Oh pearl I'm so sorry!

Yes it does have a big galleried sort of atrium in the middle. What an amazing place to have spent time in as a child!

So sorry it brings up memories though Sad

The bit it the middle with the fountain and the galleried sides was called the Garth and we spent lots of happy hours tearing round it, chasing each other and even cycled round it on occasion.
We planted fruit trees there after dad died and before it was sold - took my boys back just before the sale went through and it was like being a child again - the feeling of anticipation and excitement as you turned down the drive and lovely to see people I had known from years before.
We spent hours roaming and playing in the gardens and lots playing in the house. They are happy memories - I should maybe watch it and remember the good bits without the loss - if that makes sense .

ReallyNotAMorningPerson · 01/08/2015 23:16

That sounds absolutely lovely. I can just imagine kids cycling round that space!

I can so imagine how you feel though - childhood places where you grow up are so evocative - I was in bits when I went back and visited a place I lived in up till I was 8.

Make sure you have a strong drink and someone/thing to cuddle if you do watch it!
