Which kitchen? Please vote!

Which kitchen do you think is best? We're doing up a house, we may stay here a few years but it's definitely not our forever home.

Option a is a hand painted wood kitchen with a welsh slate worktop (my total favourite but most expensive )

Option b is an ikea kitchen with a quartz worktop which looks like marble and expensive chrome handles (I like this a lot but i worry it will put people off when we come to sell. It's much cheaper option though)

With both kitchens there's lots of natural light it's a big kitchen 6.5 b 4.5 m with additional utility. We would have a light wooden floor with both

Please let me know a or b please

Option A for me - I would get bored with a strong look like the IKEA one and the paler one looks easier to clean!

I prefer the look of A but I'm sure you could find a cheaper option than hand painted cabinets and slate work tops but still achieve the same look if you're not staying long term.

Prefer the look of A but I think it would be a waste in a house you're not planning on staying in speaks from bitter experience of losing £20k on a new kitchen in a house we later sold

If you could get B in a light colour I'd go for that!

I don't think the photos are really comparing like for like. The first photo of the lighter kitchen is beautiful. The kitchen is nice, but its the setting that really shows it off. The dark kitchen, against the black and white floor, is just awful!

I agree that you can achieve the look of (a) without it costing a small fortune and compromise on the slate worktop. And it also depends on the house. If its a million pound house, trying to do a kitchen on an IKEA type budget (whether you go for an IKEA kitchen or not) is false economy. Similarly, putting a welsh slate worktop in a house that will sell for £200,000 isn't likely to be money you'll get back!

Yes I love A but B would also be nice but the black cabinets are awful. Can you get it in a lighter colour? I would only spend loads (which I am about to!) on a 10 plus year house.

A but a cheaper version if you are not staying. I would prefer a lighter work surface though as I think black/dark grey would be over-bearing.

Looks like a is a winner!!! Although it's a hand painted kitchen it's not hugely expensive, although compared with ikea it obviously is!! The price comparison is roughly £10,000 versus £4000 for units and worktop.

Interesting comment about price of house, part of the reason we won't stay here is we got a bargin on it due to it being probate so we can do it up sl and make a lot if money to be able to buy the forever home with lower mortgage. That said, the attached house sold recently for £1.2 million and is the same but done up nicely so I think a more expensive looking kitchen is the answer.

No question for me. A. Although obviously it's already been voted a winner.

When your house goes on the market people would most likely be looking at the cost of replacing an Ikea kitchen, particularly at the kind of price you're talking about. They'd be knocking off a hell of a lot more than £6,000.

The handpainted kitchen could be rubbed down and repainted to refresh it if needs be when you do decide to move.

All depends on the house, a very old house with a lot of dark wood will probably be better with darker cabinets but those chrome handles would ruin the effect

Can I suggest a rethink on slate. I was going to have slate until I saw it in someone's kitchen, at over ten years old. Lots of scratches and dings. Great in a period or farmhouse property but it would not have worked in our more modern home. I love the sleek, organic, velvety look of slate but it quickly weathers.

Can we see kitchen B again, but not in black? It might be lovely, if it wasn't black.

As for kitchen A, do you have the curved doorway/window and nice lamp? If so, could they be seen in picture B as well, without the black?

Need to actually see a genuine equivalency in order to compare.
