Which kitchen do you think is best? We're doing up a house, we may stay here a few years but it's definitely not our forever home.

Option a is a hand painted wood kitchen with a welsh slate worktop (my total favourite but most expensive )

Option b is an ikea kitchen with a quartz worktop which looks like marble and expensive chrome handles (I like this a lot but i worry it will put people off when we come to sell. It's much cheaper option though)

With both kitchens there's lots of natural light it's a big kitchen 6.5 b 4.5 m with additional utility. We would have a light wooden floor with both

Please let me know a or b please

Thank you

I don't like how shiny the cupboard are in A, or how black they are in B. Apart from that.....not dissimilar!

Wishful80sMontage · 08/07/2015 08:08

A because I don't like like black kitchens- you can get similar styles to A that are less expensive.

WhattodowithMum · 08/07/2015 08:22

I've heard that black is about to break through as the new trendy colour, but I really prefer a white kitchen. As others have said, maybe the style of kitchen A but a bit cheaper since you won't be there long.

Wow such a big response!! Thank you everyone.

So, the kitchen A is a kitchen from neptune kitchens. It's their Suffolk range in the standard dove grey colour. They do 4 kitchens all are beautiful and reasonably priced.

The Ikea kitchen also comes in a white so I have attached the photo, personally in the flesh I think it looks very cheap in the white.

Interesting views on worktops, I've attached a photo of the same kitchen with a lighter granite which is also lovely. I do live slate, it's a natural uk product and is mined responsibly. As it's a natural product it does mark but I think this adds to it's charm. We have a house from 1890 so a modern sleek look wouldn't be as good I don't think. We has granite in the last house and I did love it but have since learnt about the mining if granite and now can't bring myself to have it.

IKEA kitchen there in white doesn't look good, agree. The black handles don't add appeal either.

I know you can get shaker doors made for the Metod range, and have them painted.

PoorNeglectedBike · 08/07/2015 10:30

We've got slate. It seems pretty bomb proof although we've only had it a couple of years, I love it

That's great to know re slate and the metod doors - Ty!

I have just discovered this ikea kitchen which someone has teamed with a shiney stone worktop and I think it looks good so might pop to ikea and have a look this weekend. Still love A though

White one because you can paint the walls any colour in the future if you want a change. Only certain colours will go with black
Had black cupboards before and regretted it

I would find dark units incredibly off-putting.

If you have a period property the dings and scratches in the worktop (which can be smoothed out and lightly sanded and oiled) are going to add to the charm. But sing slate in a well used farmhouse 10-15yr old kitchen helped me to see it wouldn't work so great in our 60s house. It is a lovely lovely product (even though it is mud hahaha! I do much prefer it to granite) but I have gone for something else myself that is synthetic but it suits our needs.
