Downstairs toilet or dishwasher, what's more useful?

We are in a small house and there is a tiny room downstairs that could be turned into a downstairs loo potentially, or we could move the washing machine in there and get a dishwasher in the space it creates in the kitchen.....
Which do you think would be more useful?....we have two smallish children...

Down stairs loo.

Admittedly i say this as a person with a dishwasher and no downstairs loo!

I would love a downstairs loo!

OwlBeeBack · 27/04/2015 20:02

Dishwasher

morethanpotatoprints · 27/04/2015 20:03

Downstairs loo, but I wouldn't have a dish washer given tbh Grin
don't see the point in them tbh.

goshhhhhh · 27/04/2015 20:03

Dishwasher. Upstairs loo gives you exercise & dishwasher saves your hands.

Alanna1 · 27/04/2015 20:04

Dishwasher. I have both now but grew up in a very large house yet with no downstairs loo. Who cares. I love my dishwasher!

Millipedewithherfeetup · 27/04/2015 20:05

Dishwasher !

SoonToBeSix · 27/04/2015 20:05

Dishwasher, really pototo? Our dishwasher recently broke The week it took until we got it repaired was very stressful.

vindscreenviper · 27/04/2015 20:07

Dishwasher!
I wouldn't want a loo very close to my kitchen

wickedwaterwitch · 27/04/2015 20:08

Depends - do you have 1 loo or more atm?

YaTalkinToMe · 27/04/2015 20:08

Dishwasher.

wickedwaterwitch · 27/04/2015 20:08

I'd say if you have 1 loo now then loo downstairs, definitely. If you have 2 or more loos now then dishwasher

BagsyThisName · 27/04/2015 20:10

Loo

MisForMumNotMaid · 27/04/2015 20:10

Put the washing machine in a shed- assuming outdoor space. Have both a downstairs loo and dishwasher inside.

ouryve · 27/04/2015 20:10

Downstairs loo.

ThatWasThat · 27/04/2015 20:16

Loo, definitely. Find another way for dishwasher

Princesspond · 27/04/2015 20:27

Dishwasher, every time. But a downstairs loo might make house more saleable, if that is something you are thinking of. Is there anyway you could squeeze both in? There are some fab space saver loo options on pinterest with the sink over the toilet

trailerpark · 27/04/2015 20:28

We only have one loo upstairs at the mo. No shed or garage. The house is pretty tiny, but people keep telling me downstairs loo is a must, as the kids get older, though I know a lady who says she loves her dishwasher more than her family!

I'd say dishwasher.

trailerpark · 27/04/2015 20:33

Yes that was the other thing, that when it comes to selling a downstairs loo is a good thing. Though we haven't been here very long and I never want to move again!

Definitely the loo - washing up can easily be a family activity and get down quickly. I didn't have a dishwasher until all 3 DC were in their teens and we survived on me washing, eldest drying and younger two putting away.

MiloCat · 27/04/2015 20:34

Dishwasher!

IUseAnyName · 27/04/2015 20:35

What's the big deal about a downstairs loo?... I've never had one in any house I've grown up in or lived in as an adult.... I can't see the use?

WaitingForMe · 27/04/2015 20:35

Dishwasher but only because I have an ensuite. If there was just the family bathroom I'd rather have a downstairs loo.

base9 · 27/04/2015 20:37

Loo. Make the dc wash the dishes.

MisForMumNotMaid · 27/04/2015 20:38

I installed one in the bottom half of an airing cupboard next to the bathroom once after getting rid of the hot water tank.

Could you rack them and have the washing machine ontop of a dishwasher and sacrifice a bit of workspace/ wall cupboard.

Are there any other cupboards/ bathroom space that could be sacrificed?

I have managed to cram a washing machine and microwave into a boxed out section of our compact understairs loo. It ment the window shrank and we changed to a smaller sink but have a dishwasher, loo and washer.
