striped stairs/landing carpet

I keep seeing lots of houses with striped carpet on stairs/landing. Is this the current trend?
I'm not so sure i like it myself, but just curious if there is a trend people are adhering to that I have been blissfully ignorant of, or if they genuinely just chose stripes over plain.

We have a striped stair carpet and genuinely chose it over plain :-) I do think it's a bit of a trend - when we looked for carpet there were a lot of striped options.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/03/2015 23:18

Yes, there is a trend for striped carpets on stairs..

We have a 'stripy' stair carpet but chose a plain landing carpet that complements one of the colours in the stair one. We have a big landing that doubles as an office, and a stripy carpet throughout would have been a bit much.

I love the look.

Onecurrantbun · 25/03/2015 07:32

I love a stripy carpet on the stairs and landing, we are having ours fitted soon. It is a bit of a trend I think but I don't really understand or get trends so we are having it because I like it. It's the same price as a normal carpet and an easy way to liven up the hall and staircase without the hassle of paying a man to do the decorating

ptumbi · 25/03/2015 08:59

Friends have stripy carpet on stairs and landing - it makes my eyes go funny.

I'm looking at replacing the stair carpet, and looking for something 'sculpted' or carved - saw a lovely cream one with burgundy flower on, carved intothe tufts...

Zinxie · 25/03/2015 09:01

I luff stripy carpet. Sculpted carpet? Noooooo! Flock wallpaper underfoot!

ChocolateCherry · 25/03/2015 09:19

So stripey on stairs and landing possibly too much? I was thinking about a stripey for the stairs too the other day but wondered what to do about the landing. A complimentary plain colour perhaps? Confused

Zinxie · 25/03/2015 09:24

I've seen stripey on stairs and landing and it looks absolutely ace.

KnobJockey · 25/03/2015 10:24

How do you seperate stairs and landing? Where would the stripes finish and plain begin?

bilbodog · 25/03/2015 10:24

the trendy ones are by Roger Oates - it is flat weave so good for stairs - about £130 per metre, so not cheap, but it does look lovely. It has been around for a while.

Missqwerty · 25/03/2015 10:51

I have them in 2 rooms and love them, not sure if trending atm but I chose them as I like them

I think stripey stair carpet is a classic that will be around for a long time because they look smart and are practical.

They've replaced patterned carpets, basically.

ptumbi · 25/03/2015 13:29

A classic? No, sorry. They make my eyes go crossed and they are getting really common (as in everywhere!).

Plain is a no-no for stairs tho. What else is there?

Zinxie · 25/03/2015 13:35

A classic, yes. There's a reason they are well liked and widely used. It's because they are a classic...

MrsMarigold · 25/03/2015 13:40

We have this sisal textured but durable, it was here when we moved in and it has grown on me, although it does stain when water gets on it. Stripes would be way too busy on our house as the staircase is a major feature and it would be hard to match up stripes on the landing

IWantDogger · 25/03/2015 13:49

We've got a striped stair runner in muted colours, beiges, Browns and dark red then plain on the landing in the same beige. The striped goes up to the top stair and the plain sort of folds over and starts there. I love it.

IWantDogger · 25/03/2015 13:50

Meant to say - I'm not really one for trends hence why the colours are subtle but love that this should stay looking good for years because it's very forgiving of marks.

Notso · 25/03/2015 14:08

I quite like the striped ones but our landing has two parts to it. You can go straight on or turn right, I can't see it working with stripes and I wouldn't know where to stop to put a plain on the landing.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/03/2015 14:18

knobjockey we have stiped carpet just on the stairs. In the hall we have a vinyl tile floor and the landing is a plain carpet which finishes just under the top of the top step.

Love your carpet AryaUnderfoot. Where's it from and what colour are your walls?

AryaUnderfoot · 25/03/2015 19:30

Thanks YomellamoHelly! We got it from Carpetright. It's part of a range called Chiswick Stripe. We've gone for the black one.

www.carpetright.co.uk/range-chiswick%20stripe-carpets.html

The walls are painted in Dulux Crispy Crumble.

It all makes such a nice change from the turquoise painted artex on hte walls and faded green carpet that we had six months ago!

yomellamoHelly · 25/03/2015 19:46

Oooo that's fab! Thanks for that Aryayunderfoot. May do a bit of plagiarising. Just getting to the stage where we can decorate our hallway.

JustBeingJuliet · 25/03/2015 20:22

I love stripey carpet! I've just done my bedroom in it, but kind of with I hadn't, as the hall/stairs/landing desperately needs doing, but I feel stripes in the bedroom and on the landing would be just too much.

audrey01 · 25/03/2015 21:47

We decided to go with no carpet on the landing, so the striped stair runner we have is on the staircase only. Here are some pics to give you an idea:

Striped carpet have been popular for a long time now, there's lots of vacations not just bold there are lots of pastel pinstripes that look very nice. Audrey01 love the hartley & tissier runner you have on your stairs. We sell them in our shop, really nice along with roger oates. www.decadesignflooring.co.uk
