striped stairs/landing carpet

I keep seeing lots of houses with striped carpet on stairs/landing. Is this the current trend?
I'm not so sure i like it myself, but just curious if there is a trend people are adhering to that I have been blissfully ignorant of, or if they genuinely just chose stripes over plain.

I love the look of the striped stair runners above, but can I ask anyone who has them, do you have to dust the painted edge often?

@ Lunaballoon - in short, yes, with kids (and pets) there can be a fair amount of dust.
But to be honest, I still prefer to have exposed edges rather than carpet end to end, as you can quickly see if there is dust and deal with it immediately.

Stripy carpets look good in hallways because of the symmetry.

Other options are checked or tartan type patterns. Anything that has straight lines looks good in hallways.

Oh I like Audrey01's runner too. Haven't heard of Hartley & Tissier before but haven't they got lovely stuff! Doesn't look like they have a supplier near us though and we're in the market for runners.
