Hotpoint v Bosch dishwasher

Can I get some urgent advice? Need to order a dishwasher today (can't live without one and mine has packed up). Have had 2 Hotpoints in the past, both have lasted about 5 years each, the current one was free as Hotpoint replaced it when the old one caught fire (ok, I realise that doesn't sound good). Have been happy with them as I just see them as something that washes the dishes. Because of this I don't want to spend a large amount of money (don't feel the need to spend on a Siemens or Neff product). To complicate things I'm in the process of having a new kitchen planned and the companies I'm approaching are suggesting those high end products. I'm also being encouraged to go for Bosch. The products are similar price c.£350 but the Hotpoint has a slightly better spec, the Bosch does have 2 year warranty though whereas the Hotpont has 1 year. Any advice? PS I need fully integrated.

This thread is quite old now, so some of the recommendations may be outdated. However, if you’ve landed here looking for advice on choosing a new appliance, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher guide with plenty of high-quality, Mumsnetter-approved models, including Bosch and Hotpoint. We hope it’s helpful Smile

bosch every time

Bosch.

We've 2 Hotpoint washing machines in the last 7 years that have gone so badly wrong they have had to be written off. The last one lasted just over 2 years and cost £799! Fortunately we had a repair plan so only paid for the first one. We've just replaced it with a Bosch, which we always used to have. We should never have changed.

We've got a Hotpoint dishwasher, that's covered by the repair plan, because the floor in the last one split. Again they replaced it because it couldn't be repaired!

Just before you order, we bought our washer from ao.com. Their service is excellent and next day delivery is £9.99 or if you wait a couple of days it's free. Their prices are the same too, I really do recommend them.

Thanks both, was just about to order the Hotpoint on next day from AO as the spec is much better than the Bosch but I think I'll go with the Bosch, its a fairly basic one for £369 but I'm sure it will be ok.

Secret
we have had both, in the last house our Bosch washing machine and fridge/freezer we had nothing but problems.
house before, all Bosch was good, luck of the drawer.
This house we have a hotpoint one and the whole design, what it does is far greater than the 2 x bosch we have had.
You need to look where your buying as Hotpoint now offer 10yrs parts and 1 yr labour.
yes the labour guarentee is not the 2yrs, but you will find if things go wrong parts will cost more than labour

or looking at it another way, a simple machine from a good maker will be more reliable than a complex machine from a poor maker.

Secretsout · 24/02/2015 11:51

good point Piglet the Bosch is on its way!

We have had an ordinary AEG one for the last 14 years. It got a bit leaky but has been fine since I cleaned the limescale off the seal.

The one before that was hotpoint, made in the Bosch factory (circa 1993). It had a few minor repairs, especially the heating element.

The Hotpoint washing machine was a write off the day it hit the 5 year warranty, so I have gone off them.

piglet i was speaking on the the 'good' maker.
every brand has a friday afternoon job.
we had 2 in one kitchen

Secretsout I know you've already ordered a Bosch but I just wanted to reassure you that you've made the right choice (IMHO). My Bosch is 15 years old and has been through a house move and works as well as it did when I bought it Smile

Secretsout · 24/02/2015 17:07

Thanks mother I'm happy with the choice, just hoping the husband plumbs it in within an hour of it landing on the doorstep!

Can you believe it… my beloved Bosch conked out today! Serves me right for singing its praises.

Which model did you get Secrets? Have you used it yet and is it any good? Smile

Secretsout · 25/02/2015 21:44

Oh mother thats a pain. Just an update, the Bosch arrived today and DH took the old Hotpoint out no problem but installing the New one.....was a nightmare. It's integrated and my DH is awful at DIY, took him a couple of hours and he's still not fitted the door. The instructions are terrible, just badly drawn pictures, not even I could figure most of them out and Im the logical one. God help us putting the door on cos the instructions are impossible!

integrated Sad

mothermirth · 26/02/2015 09:21

Eek, that sounds awful.

Ours isn't integrated thank goodness. I've ordered the Bosch Logixx - hope it will last as long as my previous model.

Please let me know how you get on with yours (would love to know which one you bought) once it's up and running Smile

Secretsout · 26/02/2015 18:16

Exactly piglet, in my analness I refuse to have things 'on show', which becomes a real pain when you have a no-diy husband and the things break down. mother its so far so good! but I would have checked my choice a bit more and gone for one with a knife rack and one where the top shelf can be adjusted with a clip type thing rather than this one which needs the basket changing on to a different rail. We bought the Bosch SMV50C00GB Standard Dishwasher.

Ah, that'll teach me to read threads properly - all along I've been talking about clothes washing machines!

Despite the recent demise of my Bosch clothes washing machine, I am happy to report that my ancient (10 years +) dishwasher is still working well hope that's not the kiss of death Grin and I'm looking forward impatiently to my new Logixx CWM arriving next week.
