our converted garage isn't selling, market seems to have not picked up in jan

We've converted our garage into a home. Its freehold and I'll admit its a bit on the small side but if I was in my 20s or looking for an investment I think it would be fab. Its similar in size to one bed flats however has the advantage of no shared walls.

We took out a quite large loan to pay for this (40k) and currently have it on at 175 so were hoping to make a decent profit but its been on for 3 months now with only 4 viewings and no offers. Its getting to the stage where the interest is making a real dent in our finances and eating into the profit. Its all done up to a good spec and is clear and neutral so I don't think that's the problem.

I was to spend some money to put some funishings in and keep the price while partner is wanting to lower the price 10k. Any advice?

As I can't see the house from the outside or the quality of the finish inside, nor having any idea where it is or local market comparables, the only suggestion I can offer is that you start marketing it as a Mews House or a converted stable. It's a sad fact but you will get a few extra viewings that way.

After talking to my shrink and her assuring me I am still of sound mind, I have decided that the few cubic meters of space beside the garage is enough to develop a shed. not any old shed but a habitable shed. I have the wood and I will make a start tomorrow. I intend marketing it around 120k which will make it cheaper than the garage. Forget the fucking twigs , I am going with the garden gnome theme. I intend having a rack system with gnomes set out to give the illusion of space. I dont want to feel that the trough people have left me at the starers block. I mean as I have succumbed to the trougher mentality I feel justified in say6ing fuck it, and go for gold

Subsmummy, I am the voice of reason in a crazy greedy world. I bet there are many others reading this seeing the lunacy, and it's not my lunacy you need to worry about. Still, bitching at the bereaved must ease some of the pain of being all alone in that dirt cheap house you could relocate to due to having no human ties.

I cant spend all day and night replying to ruffians , and have no sympathy for anyone who has a garage for sale for 170k. Why if it's so good a bargain does she not live in it and sell her house? I am a caring person , and have empathy for those that deserve, like the young being shut out of ever having their own place because of all this greed. I dont care if I am banned at least I am not frightened to speak my mind. We have free speech in this country dont read my posts if you dont like em. Even members of the government are filling their boots, fucking greed

If some of you opened your minds and gave some thought to all the ramifications of sales like this causing rents to shoot up , and all the knock on effects on the low and not so low paid and their ability to participate in the economy past survival mode

So what should the OP do Ron? Carry on being out of pocket on loan repayments just because her mother died?

Why should she move into a smaller house. Maybe she has six kids? Maybe she can afford the bigger house she bought years ago, maybe she likes her home and wants to stay there.

Anyway surely the more properties which are built and sold will help with the supply and demand problem and long term actually cause prices to fall? Maybe you should open your mind!

Sell it for what a garage is worth or put her car in it. Sorry no sympathy at all . This type of madness will end up destroying all of us. Let the speculators lose out. I dont want more bail outs and my daughters end up seeing their money devalued and their chances further degraded and possibly social disorder. Remember the london riots imagine that on a countrywide scale with a shrunken sized police force

She will sell it for what it's worth.....possibly about 10k less than what she's got it on for. Either that or rent it. Oh wait, you hate landlords as well don't you? She can hardly put a car in it, it's been converted. Do you understand the concept of that? You know, smaller door, kitchen, internal walls.......

Ron do you want to know what happened to me today? I found out our much longed for baby is dead inside me and I have to choose a way of removing my dead baby from my uterus by either having it sucked out or scraped out or by letting nature take it's cause and it will fall out at some point into the toilet maybe or if I'm really lucky at Tesco or somewhere equally embarrassing and traumatic.

So you are going to have to forgive me for not giving a fuck about your housing related rants and your anger regarding people converting garages and sheds into dwellings. Whatever your personal situation currently, I hope you find some peace with it but I also would really like it if you stopped turning every housing thread into a personal crusade against Capitalism.
