IKEA sink panic!

bigbutsrus1 · 02/11/2014 20:36

We had planned to go to ikea next weekend to pick up the sink and unit. Fell pfor the Domsjo double ceramic (shallow butler type). However went online to check the dimensions and it appears that they no longer sell themShock. The new kitchen catalogue is out for 2015 and has pictures of this sink but you cannot buy it!! Hmm I have been madly googling similar sinks and £££££. Does anyone have an idea where I can get a similar sink for under £200? Liked the fact that it backed right into the wall so no worktop went round the back - esp as we are having wood. Any help much appreciated!

It's true, we had to botch non Ikea units to fit the Domsjo on them, and the new ones are an even odder size. Check the stock number because the new Domsjo are a slightly different size to the ones from the old range. It could be difficult fitting a non Ikea sink on, inset ones are flexible but belfast have to match the unit.

SoloCatherineWheelsOnAllPosts · 05/11/2014 10:04

Yes, but that's assuming we can even buy a Domsjo double sink!!!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 05/11/2014 12:13

You could buy something like this so you get the white "look" of a belfast sink with none of the rotting wood issue?

This is something similar inset into wooden worktops. Personally I don't think it looks bad but then I have wooden worktops because I inherited them, not through choice.

Had a further email and apparently there is non in stock in the country! Oh well continue to the costly plan B of the Villory and boch sink

It's a bit cheaper here - at least I think it's the same sink.

Spoke to a lovely man at Ikea Lakeside yesterday and he said it's definitely not discontinued, but we are probably looking at about 6 months waiting for new supplies.

Junebug15 · 28/11/2014 13:17

Hello!
Has anyone had any joy in purchasing a Domsjo Double?
We bought out kitchen a few weeks back and looks as though we may not be able to complete in time for Christmas :(

It definitely won't be cheap eating out on Christmas day!
I suppose we could always wash up in a bucket! Haha.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 28/11/2014 13:34

I can have a look at work tonight (work in IKEA although not Kitchens specifically) I'll see what it says generally, but what store is your local?

Junebug15 · 28/11/2014 14:36

Oh thank you, that's really kind of you :)
We live nearest to the Wembley store.

We took so long ordering our kitchen (well the planner was a little slow on the computer system....ooooops) that we ended up being escorted from the building by a staff member as the store had been officially closed for half an hour.
Haha I was in my element....like a private Ikea tour and saw all the staff tidying, making beds, arranging the soft toys :)
Looked like a great place to work at that time.....not sure I'd like to on a busy weekend or bank holiday though! Shock

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 28/11/2014 16:24

If anyone's going to have them Wembley will - they tend to get stuff first Grin

It;s a nice place to work for - just had my 10 year anniversary and got lovely flowers, champagne and a £100 voucher! Busy weekends are the seventh circle of hell though...

I'll post back when I get home tonight, hopefully I'll find something out for you.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 28/11/2014 19:14

Just a quickie. Will post when I get home, sneaky MNing at work is hard! I have information...Smile

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 28/11/2014 23:30

Okay, saga of the Domsjo Double sink...

The original Domsjo Double sink (100.491.43, 82x64cm) went with the Faktum kitchen and both were discontinued in June this year. You will not get that particular sink in any UK store, it's just been too long. There's just nothing left.

The new Domsjo double is slightly larger (902.225.39, 83x66cm) and goes, I assume, with the new Metod kitchen? As with a small proportion of new products, something somewhere has gone wrong and it's officially on shortage until sometime next year. However, it IS currently in stock in some stores. Lakeside, no, but other London ones do have it. As of this evening, Wembley were showing 4, Tottenham were showing 8 and we (Croydon) have 6.

Now I'm going to eat chocolate and recover from a slightly manic Friday evening Smile

neepsandtatties · 29/11/2014 07:25

Great insider info - Mumsnet rocks!

Junebug15 · 29/11/2014 08:14

Ah fantastic!
Can head up there in an hour or 2.... so hopefully that won't be too late.
Thanks so much for your help!

My mum lives in Spain and queried stock levels over there (also low) and was told that the reason was a ship carrying them sunk!
Not sure how true that is.... but you can't argue if you're told that.

Thanks again for your investigative skills....looks as though we may hopefully be able to finish the kitchen in time for Christmas! Smile

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 29/11/2014 10:27

I shall pass that rumour onto Kitchens - it's slightly more interesting than 'we underestimated sales' or 'the supplier is pants' Grin

Janie42 · 30/11/2014 22:51

This forum has been brilliant.
Been trying to get a domsjo double sink as we bought all the kitchen and worktops around it and now find they are not obtainable. How do we get a sink ordered online delivered into Wales from the London area that has one,as the online facility does not even list them.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 01/12/2014 00:52

Stuff ordered online doesn't come from the stores - it comes from a separate distribution centre so stock at a particular store wouldn't be transferred anywhere else as a general rule. However, there's a chance that even if it's not on the main website yet it can still be ordered in store, but I have to access our systems to check. I don't work that side so I'm not sure if non-website things work that way, I'll look though. FWIW you have to physically go to a store to get them to put in a distribution order for you - can't do it by phone.

Having said that, I didn't check stock for out of London branches as I was looking specifically for Junebug, but I can check Bristol and Cardiff tomorrow morning if that's any help?

If none of this works though, your only option is to ring Customer Services (yes I know they are terrible to get through to!) and poke them until they help you Smile

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 01/12/2014 11:22

3 in Bristol, none in Cardiff if that helps anyone. Maybe, possibly, perhaps one in Cardiff at the weekend but it's iffy at best.

Yarp · 02/12/2014 17:30

We got ours in France. Were off on holiday there a few weeks after we found out they'd be out of stock for the foreseeable future. Didn't realise they were now discontinued. I do love it. Sorry OP

Worth checking there?

TheBeanAndTheBee · 02/12/2014 17:40

It's probably been said above but I really really wouldn't recommend having a sink with no draining board on wood. Hated my old (ikea) one - the worktop around it was so manky....

l7ynz · 26/12/2014 21:05

hi, did anyone manage to get hold of the Domsjo double sink? Did any of the alternatives fit in the base unit without issue? I am currently waiting on just the sink :) Thanks

l7ynz · 26/12/2014 21:07

Mrs D any chance you could check Warrington or Manchester?

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 26/12/2014 21:15

I can, but not back in work until next week I can look on Monday if that's not too late.

hh1986 · 09/01/2015 23:42

Hi... I went to the warrington store on dec 23rd and was told that they are not discontinued. They are just having complications with the manufacturer due to the high demand. They are due to be back in stock in March. The girl on kitchens was great, after I wandered off she came and found me in the store and said there was one more option she could try, she managed to dispatch one to their warehouse for me and it was delivered on Jan 2nd! I have never been so grateful! I'm not sure how she did it but it made my christmas!

Antykazza · 10/01/2015 06:50

Hi all, happy new year....
I live overseas, but am trying to renovate my house in UK... Desperately seeking a Domsjo double sink and all the above comments are all I've been told too... Just asking has anyone had any further updates? I'm due to come back to UK in March and was hoping to be able to get the sink then.... Is this likely does anyone know?
Also, if I went for the V and B sink - would the Ikea black cast iron tap fit it?
So typical.....
Hope someone can help ??
