Do you put one in straight away or cope without?

We cope without.

I say we, I cook so dh gets the delights of washing up!

poocatcherchampion · 24/04/2014 18:52

nearly a year without so far. saving up for a kitchen and CBA to mess around until then

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 24/04/2014 18:55

We had a few months without one as a relative offered to buy one, wanted to be there when we chose it, but had a very busy social calendar (gift horse and all that!).
Was a pain but boy did I worship that dishwasher after we finally got it!

charlywarly · 24/04/2014 19:00

Oh how I long for a dishwasher! :(

OnaPromise · 24/04/2014 19:04

Ours broke a couple of years ago and we don't miss it. It takes as long to load and unload as to wash up. Only three of us though.

Straight away. Absolutely as soon as one could be delivered and/or plumbing sorted.

BeCool · 24/04/2014 19:15

I can only have dishwasher if the washing machine goes. I chose WM!

BackforGood · 24/04/2014 19:15

Straight away - I guess it wouldn't be as necessary if you lived alone, but with a family, essential IMO.

Eyelet · 24/04/2014 19:16

There is no way we can fit in a dw into our kitchen.

I miss it SO MUCH! Two years of washing up three times a day and we've got two very young children.

CalamitouslyWrong · 24/04/2014 19:17

We didn't have a dishwasher in the house we rented and it was awful. We put ken in when when moved in here and delighted in not having to wash up and actually having clean dishes. We'd never be without one again, at least not voluntarily.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/04/2014 19:19

Good grief - cope without! A dishwasher is an absolute luxury.
Honestly, some questions on here are totally baffling! Has no-one ever heard of a bowl of hot soapy water and a brush?

How did our Mums cope? My Mum used to wash nappies and bedlinen by hand, no washing machine. Microwaves weren't invented. She didn't have a vacuum cleaner either, so did it with a broom, mop and dustpan and brush.

Dishwasher? - Pah

MadamBatShit · 24/04/2014 19:20

When I moved in with then partner I insisted on one. Now he doesn't want to be without one anymore either. Essential, even with only the two of us.
We have a slimline in our tiny kitchen. I cook, he does the rest of the dishes. Grin

NotMrsTumble · 24/04/2014 19:22

coped without until we re-did the kitchen. (6-8 weeks) Existing kitchen was actually rotting & oven door didn't choose. Barbecues and camping stove until pil offered to help towards new kitchen (couldn't bear the idea of dgc not having a proper kitchen!)

We had dw from old house, just no plumbing. Had to do temporary kitchen (under £1500) as eventually we knew we would extend.

Two days of doing dishes in the bath and then paper plates while the extension was done.

I love my dw, everything goes in, & it's on at least twice a day.

FamiliesShareGerms · 24/04/2014 19:22

We can only fit in a slimline and have held off putting one in until we decide if it's worth the hassle for something that only holds a mug and spoon (well, a bit more, but would def need emptying every day )

NotMrsTumble · 24/04/2014 19:22

close not choose!

ChazzerChaser · 24/04/2014 19:25

I've never lived in a house with one.

Dfg15 · 24/04/2014 19:32

When I bought my flat the previous owners left a dishwasher. I was going to get rid of it and get a tumble dryer - SO glad I didn't I love my dishwasher - I live alone so call me lazy if u want but I don't care I hate washing up

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 24/04/2014 19:35

Don't have one, don't need one. Used to have one in another house, rarely used it.

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 24/04/2014 19:36

Straight away if possible (plumbing allowing etc)

ThatBloodyWoman · 24/04/2014 19:37

I did without, and I can honestly say if I was offered one now I wouldn't take it.

It's so much easier to just wash up.

justaweeone · 24/04/2014 19:42

We lasted 6 mths without one
But then had some plumbing work to have one even though we were moving the kitchen !!
Best money we spent as cannot beat really clean dishes and no clutter on the side

TalisaMaegyr · 24/04/2014 19:42

I've never had a dishwasher, and I'm 43! And we have 4 dc... and we both work fulltime. It only takes 5 minutes. If I had the money for a dishwasher, it would be so much better spent elsewhere!

sleepyhead · 24/04/2014 19:47

We don't have room.

I'd love one and I'd definitely get one if we did have room, but space for a dishwasher wasn't on the list of must-haves when we were looking for a new place.
