Has anyone used the Nationwide (via call centre) for a mortgage and how long did it take to be agreed?

My application was processed yesterday (after many lengthy conversations and system crashes). We are porting our existing mortgage and adding a new mortgage for the house we are buying.

The call centre estimate 6 weeks to process but in reality, how long should this take?

We did exactly this (ported current mortgage and added a second one) with Nationwide last year - I don't think it took more than a couple of weeks for our application to be approved. We had several appointments in the branch though, rather than going via the call centre. Are you fairly confident that you've supplied them with all the documentation they need (payslips, P60s etc)?

We've just done exactly the same - have ported & added with the Nationwide. All done over phone. We had one hiccup which potentially could have scuppered the whole move, they misinformed us on something to do with DH's self-employed earnings. But it only left us with a 3.5k shortfall on the mortgage which we've found elsewhere. From initial application to today, when formal offer came in post, must have been 4 weeks but if you're not self-employed I'd imagine it would be quicker.

The last two moves, we have liaised with the person who covers our branch. However, upon speaking with her she told us it would be quicker to do the application through the call centre as she was busy! Following the application process yesterday, I took the original payslips (as advised) to our local branch for them to fax through with a cover note saying they had witnessed the originals so that this information could be attached to our case file.

I have given our employer details (although they have never previously written to our employers) and that won't be a problem, as I will be the one preparing the reply for my manager to sign and my husband's HR team will process the reply quickly too.

The Homebuyers report has been requested. What else can possibly take 6 weeks though?

We've done exactly the same, ported and added on. We're two and a half weeks in and still waiting although the survey was done quickly and they let us know by text and email almost straight away that it had been satisfactory.
The pain with ours is that we're relocating so they've asked for an employer's reference this week from DH's soon to be boss - who is of course out of the office until Monday Hmm
Why they didn't just request it two weeks ago I don't know.

Loved them, so easy to do unlike the Royal Wank of Scotland

Oh I hope ours takes 2-3 weeks Doris. Did they ask you for any further information once your application had been submitted?

2.5 weeks, but only after I put a rocket under them. The mortgage consultant had said it would be 6-8 weeks.We already bank with them and weren't looking to borrow more than 40LTV so that may have speeded it up. The Nationwide have just reduced their rates again though so they may get busier in the next few weeks.
I did the same as you, took items to the branch for them to copy and send on, when I enquired 2 weeks later as to what progressed was made they told me that some of information was illegible on the copies, I did ask them why they hadn't contacted me immediately, after a good moan and sending the stuff again they approve the mortgage in 3 days. I would call them and check they have the copies that you have sent through.

Prawntoast do you happen to know about the new rates and where we can find them? I would hate to find out that the rate of the product we have got dropped merely a week after submitting full application! Hmm

Nationwide website has the current rates, the deal we got was 2.59%, they are now offering the same deal at 2.49%. I think most of their deals have dropped by 0.1%. Mind you this is our 2nd application with them in 6 months (previous property fell through) and we were originally on a 3.19% deal so can't moan really. I remember paying 13% back in the day!

I just called re the payslips and they confirmed that they have received them. I am now waiting for Countrywide to arrange the Homebuyers. I hope they hurry!

That's good news Cuddy, they arranged and carried out the homebuyers survey very quickly. I think we had confirmation that it was satisfactory about 4 days after we submitted the application.

We are having our homebuyers survey on Tuesday. Fingers crossed all our surveys come back ok and satisfactory valuation.

(And to answer your question, no they didn't ask me for anything else, but I used to work for a bank so I gave them everything they could possibly want, and about 300 documents they didn't! Grin)

I just rang them for an update - they've now finally got everything they need so should be able to issue an offer by the end of the week, so that will have been 3 1/2 weeks for us.
We were complicated though so those of you who aren't relocating/new jobs etc may well get through it more quickly.

I'm still not letting myself get excited!

Porting our mortgage to new purchase but paying some off (with Nationwide).

Ours was less than ten days...survey instructed and carried out within 4 days; I posted off payslips/P60s immediately I got off the phone and we had mortgage offer in ten days.

We're borrowing less than 15%, though, so it possibly didn't get more than a cursory glance...?

Homebuyers now booked in for Monday 22nd - hurry!!! Borrowing a lot more than 15% so I guess they'll be more thorough!

cuddy, they didn't write for employers refs for us, just had p60 plus most recent payslip.
