Has anyone used the Nationwide (via call centre) for a mortgage and how long did it take to be agreed?

My application was processed yesterday (after many lengthy conversations and system crashes). We are porting our existing mortgage and adding a new mortgage for the house we are buying.

The call centre estimate 6 weeks to process but in reality, how long should this take?

So far they've only asked for the most recent payslips. I've had a P60 today and wonder if should send it to them. Husband hasn't had his yet and his is the important one :)

Just had my text to say offer in post!

Cuddy you should only need latest payslip with no ref if you're both employed and staying in same jobs.

cuddy, I would call them and check whether they want P60's. If your DH hasn't got this years yet they would accept last years as long as you have the most up to date payslips as well. When we applied our P60's were 10 months old.

Just had the hard copy of the initial paperwork through the post and it does say just payslips (which have already been faxed via the branch). As I have to sign this document and send it back and I will also send a copy of the payslips (again!) - belt and braces approach!

Yay Tartiflette! I'll be relieved when this is all over. I've said it so many times before but I'm not moving again :)

Tartiflette, well done!!!SmileSmile

Cuddy, seems to be your case is going along ok. Our payslips were also 10months when we applied. I had received a payrise in that time so it was reflected in the recent payslips. I gave them a copy of the payrise letter too just in case.

I am relieved for now that mortgage offer is given but I will not settle until exchange/ completion. I have read somewhere that they can still pull your offer up to the day of completion for audit! I hope ours is not one of them. I would assume that we are a rather straight forward case 1st time buyers, no defaults, stable(fairly) jobs and our main accounts with them for over 2yrs.

Homebuyers survey was carried out yesterday. How long will it be before I see a copy of the report? Is it realistic that I will get the report this week? I am very impatient!

Just called Countrywide and they advised that the Homebuyers Report normally takes 5-7 days.

We put our application in on 12th (offer accepted on house on the Tuesday ebforehand) via IFA - we're (hopefully!) going to be with Nationwide too. FTB's here though. They requested an additional bank statement for October last year for some bizarre reason, scanned and emailed that to IFA yesterday. They've confirmed that they have received it.

Date we gave vendors is 31st May...so fingers crossed all goes well and we can complete then! 6wks on Friday!

We've had the texts too, valuation survey satisfactory , nothing since last wednesday though

Nationwide were quick throughout the process for us. We had the survey completed last week on Tuesday and we received the offer text that same day evening. We then received the homebuyers survey via email on Thursday. We received the paper copy of mortgage offer yesterday.

All we have to do now is chase our solicitor. All searches done apart from LA search which we are expecting about 2nd May.

Solicitor received the draft contract on 16th April but is yet to raise queries from it. Should we have expected this to have been started by now? I will check on Thursday.

We hope to exchange before 15th May so that we can give LL 1month notice to be out on or before 15th June. We have been advised not to give notice till after exchange. We are flexible on completion date and are happy for the rest of the chain to dictate that, within reason of course. I have just noticed that we have not given our solicitor the dates aforementioned!

We are also with the Nationwide, think I replied upthread. We have gone from offer to exchange in 6 weeks & will complete in another fortnight. From house going on market to completion it will be 11 weeks.

Hang in there everyone & good luck Smile

Yes cuddlymum trying not to panic, but its scary how fast time is going!

I think I was hoping that I too would have the text from the Nationwide but alas I'll have to wait. I guess it depends on the surveyor and how quick they are to process at their end.

Urgh! There's a problem. The surveyor has reported traces of a treatment called aqua foam to some of the roof timbers. Nationwide are the only lender who will refuse a mortgage based on this (computer says no!).

I have been able to speak to the surveyor who says that if the vendor can remove the traces he can go out and re-inspect. I have to process this via the Nationwide but I can call him and he will ensure it is him to re-visits.

When I spoke to the Nationwide they said that the application was with the underwriters and he would put a note on the file so that they would not cancel the whole application!!!!

The EA is speaking to the vendor to find out when he can chip it off and then the surveyor can go back round. I just hope that this is acceptable.

Oh gosh CuddlyMum - hope it all goes well.

IFA called and asked if we'd be able to pay a personal loan off, as it looks like they may ask for this to be done Confused we've said yes but i just feel like we're jumping through hoops and could still be declined (IFA doesn't think we will be declined, I am just unwilling to get excited and probably won't until I have the keys in my hand)

Pretty, our offer letter had conditions that we pay off the £900 credit card bill I had. I had budgeted for it but I assume they would still lend but a lower figure due to the extra financial commitment. I believe you don't have to pay it off now but just promised to pay off before completion. we declared the debt and also promised we would pay it off.

Cuddy, I don't know what the aqua treatment is (off to google now). But let's hope it does not slow things down too much. Fingers crossed.

Report
CuddyMum · 24/04/2013 17:48

Well this aqua stuff is something that was used to insulate the roof and rafters. When the current vendors moved there over 15 years ago it was brought to their attention and they actually put a whole new roof on. From what I am told, the product isn't harmful and there really is only a trace of it on the rafters but it's something that only the Nationwide object to.

The remnants of the products will be scraped off by the end of this weekend and the surveyor is revisiting on Monday. He will resubmit his report and hopefully the mortgage application will be unsuspended.

Just had IFA call for an update. They have requested a reference from our employers? Hopefully they'll be nearly done when they get this back, longest 2.5wks we've ever had, hope it wont go on for too much longer

Can I also ask - what happens if we don't receive formal mortgage offer before completion date Confused (not til the end of May, but still...

CuddyMum · 29/04/2013 16:18

Our surveyor has revisited the property today to inspect the beams. He is happy to resubmit the report to the Nationwide and recommend that they can lend now. I have to call the Nationwide again to ensure that they have received the report and ask them to process. I hope it doesn't take too much longer as we are due to move in 4 weeks!

Good luck CuddlyMum - our completion date is 31st May...I just want to know either way now. Have not been hearing good things about them

Report
CuddyMum · 29/04/2013 16:46

Oh no. I have to say that I have been liaising with them about this non-issue with the survey and they haven't been very helpful at all. I have emailed my local representative who I normally would have gone through to say I am very unhappy and could she intercept the application. I only applied over the phone because she said it would be quicker and she was busy! I am very sure that you cannot complete without the mortgage offer and the funds in place.

I have chased to see if they have received the report but they tell me it probably comes via fax and will take 24-48 hours for them to update my case. I have been advised to call again same time tomorrow.
