Following on from haunted houses threads, picture 10 of this house would give me the creeps, I couldn't sit on the sofa with that behind me!

What feature would give you the creeps in a house?

What that Buddah thing? Wouldn't really bother me. Not sure about their bling decor - but what a flipping gorgeous place!! No wonder it's so expensive.

I don't like dark wood staircases and banisters and creepy grandfather clocks..in fact any loud ticking clocks. Wouldn't be keen on mounted dead animals deads on walls either.

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 18:33

I don't like the windy, long, open staircases in period houses.

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 18:34

The price of that house freaks the shit out of me!

EffieTheDuck · 07/04/2013 18:36

owls

500internalerror · 07/04/2013 18:40

The picture of the tap running alone is more scary!!!!

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 18:41

Priest holes.

dizzyhoneybee · 07/04/2013 18:47

Oh yes, priest holes - I couldn't have a house with one of those without a massive piece of heavy furniture on top of it.
Yes, the Buddha thing; with that right behind the sofa I'd feel like I was being watched by something like a Dr Who weeping angel!

Cellars - creeeeepy.... and attics with a staircase and a locked door...

locked doors creep me out - we hired a 4 bed villa in Florida and they had an owners lockup room in there - I spent all 2 weeks wondering if there was a mad axe murderer behind the locked door......

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 18:48

YY, I hate cellars/basements.

dizzyhoneybee · 07/04/2013 18:59

When I lived in an old house it had a trapdoor which lifted to show a space about 6 feet long and 3 feet wide; I had it boarded up, there was no way I was keeping that! This was in the same house that had the black character that walked along the hall and went upstairs...gives me the creeps just thinking of of it.

Cellars and the sort of windows that faces look in, ie creepy old fashioned ones with no curtains

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 19:10

I don't like open corridors on first/second floors, either, with bannisters running along them. No, just no.

ByTheWay1 · 07/04/2013 19:27

I don't like balconies either - I feel like I'm going to tip over the railings...

MrsJamin · 07/04/2013 22:04

Would never buy a house with a cellar or balcony, scary things! Also hate steep steps in garden as worry the boys would fall down them.

littlecrystal · 07/04/2013 22:36

I also don't like attics and cellars, especially cellars. And I don't like thinking about that 5ft deep space underneath my floorboards (victorian house) and what 110 year old crap could hide in there. I'd much prefer concrete on the ground floor.

serin · 07/04/2013 23:06

Cellars and monkey puzzle trees.

expatinscotland · 07/04/2013 23:11

I hate monkey puzzle trees.

MoonlightandRoses · 07/04/2013 23:23

Picture 7 in this link (Courtesy of a February thread on here). Even if it got moved, you'd still know it had been there).

Ponyofdoom · 07/04/2013 23:24

I viewed a house which had someone else's wood almost right up to the back of the house. That was spooky. Another place had a really sinister conifer wood that was really dark even in daylight, deathly silent and all the trees had sort of drawn the soil up around the trunks. It was horrid.

Shodan · 07/04/2013 23:29

I like cellars. We had one in the house I grew up in- it smelled lovely!

But the other half of our semi-d had their upper staircase blocked in with a door, where ours was open. That was proper creepy.

I don't like too many trees around a house- just begging to hide rapists, axe-murderers and other nasties.

500internalerror · 08/04/2013 00:13

bLOODY HELL mOONLIGHT - WHAT IS THAT?!!!

500internalerror · 08/04/2013 00:13

Oops caps, sorry!

GreenEggsAndNichts · 08/04/2013 00:15

Sorry but laughing at that tap photo. I mean, holy shit, a tap with water coming out of it? Get out of town! I'm on the phone with my mortgage lender right now!

GreenEggsAndNichts · 08/04/2013 00:16

moonlight just clicked your link. I shouldn't have done just before bed. :(

willyoulistentome · 08/04/2013 00:17

Hahaha - what the Hell is it meant to be? and WHY would you leave it out for an estate agent to photograph?
