The truth - is DFS as bad as I think??

Replacing our sofas and DH and I really like one in DFS that is currently in one of their many, many sales.
We have three littles so not necessarily looking for a forever sofa but am worried we might regret the purchase.
Any advice??

We've had a DFS sofa for nearly 7 years now, it's absolutely fine. We'll probably keep it for another 3 or 4 years until the boys are older and then replace.

It's in perfectly good condition just grubby - but with two small kids, any sofa would be grubby!

TheCunningStunt · 04/11/2012 15:46

I am n my second dfs sofa. First one had no problems at all. Second one, no problems either..tho we have only had it a few weeks

Joycey29 · 04/11/2012 15:46

That's my gut feeling! I have heard horror stories about soggy bottoms within six months. But really like this sofa...... My sofa would be grubby too!Wink

Mine was shit, the leg fell off after a couple of years. We have one from cargo now which is much nicer for the same sort of price.

Our DFS sofas are nearly 4yrs old and doing fine, apart from having 4 under 5s climbing and having accidents on it - we are already talking about replacing them, but not till all the kids are potty trained!
We had 1 small issue which they fixed quickly - and they were really good about making sure it was back to us before we moved! I'd buy from them again

CuddyMum · 04/11/2012 17:04

No saggy bottoms here! We've had our DFS sofa for over 8 years. I'm ready for a new one soon and will probably choose DFS again.

poppyboo · 04/11/2012 17:07

Have a look at Ikea sofa with the removable washable covers? The Ektorp one comes in lots of different colours.

DorsetKnob · 04/11/2012 17:08

No saggy bottoms here either 7 years old.

InNeedOfAPennyForTheGuysBrandy · 04/11/2012 17:08

My dad had a dfs sofa which I then had, then my friend had it and her cousin after. Lasted very very well.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 04/11/2012 17:11

We had a DFS sofa when we first got married. It was fine, even when we had little ones. My sister has a leather one from there that she has had about 12 years I think. Whilst it does look a little bit saggy, it doesn't look it's age and doesn't need replacing.

I am sure I read somewhere they have a 10 year guarentee. I might be wring though.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 04/11/2012 17:11

I have 2 leather DFS sofas. One of them was creaky but as they have a lifetime frame guarantee they came out and fixed it no problem. Doing fine so far.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 04/11/2012 17:12

sorry, its actually just a 10 year guarantee (dont know why I said lifetime guarantee!)

flinkystanny · 04/11/2012 17:13

We have had DFS sofa's for 5 1/2 years now and I would also say they are fine. They are not sagging, just a few snags on the furniture which I think is just the type of material they are made of. Our kids are constantly jumping on them and are on DC 2 of potty training so we have removed and washed the covers a few times too which I don't think you are really supposed to do with these ones.
I wouldn't get DFS again though. I think they do over charge because of the interest free credit. I think a set of Ikea would be about half the price. Or may even go for M & S next time as when on sale they are the same price as DFS

ScooseIsOnTheLoose · 04/11/2012 17:15

Ours is terrible and still got a year and a half to pay I hate it can't wait to get rid of it. I will never bother with Ffs ever again!Angry

Littlemissimpatient · 04/11/2012 17:15

We have had our dfs sofas for 5 years and they are still perfect.
DH does occasionally treat them with the leather cleaning care kit that came with it

fluffydressinggown · 04/11/2012 17:30

We are like the DFS family, we have DFS as do PIL and BIL, all of the sofas are fine, very comfy, not saggy.

I do really like Ikea sofas though but we went with DFS because there was a wider range of sizes. We have a 12 year old Ikea sofa bed and it is as good as new.

noddyholder · 04/11/2012 17:34

They look horrible not sure on quality but can't be great as are cheap and cheap sofas so uncomfy!

wishiwasonholiday · 04/11/2012 17:36

We've just bought a sofa from csl, we went round csl, dfs and scs and the one we chose seemed better quality. They look a lot different to on their adverts in real life.

TheCreepingLurgy · 04/11/2012 17:40

I'll never buy a DFS sofa again. It still looks great but definitely saggy on both sides apart from the middle where you can now actually feel the frame. It's a three seater, so two persons sink down into it and the middle one will have a sore bum.

Viviennemary · 04/11/2012 17:40

The reason I am wary of them is the generous interest free credit they give and pay nothing till ..... How do they afford to do this without their prices being high.

We've had our dfs sofa for 8 years no saggy bottoms here but a bit squeaky and grubby

Knittingnovice · 04/11/2012 17:49

I am sitting here on our nearly 5yo dfs leather recliner which has been wee'd on, puked on, jumped on etc by 2 very boisterous DC's.
It is lovely, we didn't bother with the interest free credit, used DH's last pre DC bonus to pay for it and they weren't happy with us taking however much in cash to pay. Would probably get another one, but not for a very long time.

RubyrooUK · 04/11/2012 17:52

We have two DFS sofas. Doing up house for getting rid of them soon but they're in perfect nick. One is leather, one is a sofa bed. Both lasted much better, ironically, than our previous ones from much more expensive places. Maybe it depends what variety you get.

thenightsky · 04/11/2012 17:52

got 2 sofas with removable washable covers from DFS when kids were little. They lasted 15 years. DFS threw in a spare set of covers at the time, so I could swap colours around.
