Can we play property porn for second homes?

Imagine you had £400k or £500k, where would you buy?

Not after the pros and cons of second home ownership or the issues of pricing locals out as it isn't me buying.

If it were I'd quite fancy somewhere rural, secure, cute little towns nearby for coffee shops and then a larger town/ nice small city, such as Bath or Cambridge.

Mind you if we're doing total fantasy we could just push the budget up to a few million Grin and a helicopter to whizz us around.

I would love a little bolt hole in North Yorkshire. I love York and its about an hour from home so I would be able to get there often. This property has just the right amount of seclusion with accessability for me.

oreocrumbs · 01/05/2012 00:19

Now if only they can knock a couple of zeros off the price and I can have my dream Grin

Somewhere with a view of the sea. Charmouth in Dorset is a favourite. Stunning views of the coast down to Portland...sigh...

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 01/05/2012 10:34

I'd want to live in the country and have a flat in central london for weekends. Less guilt then too!

takeonboard · 01/05/2012 10:39

I love the cotswolds - a stone cottage would be fab and the journey is doable from London for just weekends.
I also love Devon and would really love a place by the sea, Beer is lovely but its a bit further and probably too much of a journey from London just for the weekend.
Oooh, I can't decide but it would be a lovely problem to have Smile

Ooh Oreo that is stunning! Wow!

We could share it - only £2.5m each in that case Grin.

I'll have a look down the back of the sofa and see how much loose change I can rustle up. Should be a spare couple of million around here somewhere Grin

Of course we will need staff too so perhaps best to check pockets of old jackets for extra too?

Cornwall definately!
How about this
or this

whydoesitalwaysrainonme · 02/05/2012 10:32

Cornwall is just too far from here (SE) unless I could charter a helicopter each weekend. Or a private jet to take me to Newquay.

I do love the Channel Islands too.

I fancy this

Set in the grounds of an estate (so someone else can to the work on the 350 Acre grounds) and there is even a private beach.

Bran where in the West? - I am from Mayo .... we did it too - had been yapping on about extending our house here then decided life was too short so bought a wreck in th French Alps last year which we rennovated - so we can ski all winter and summer is boiling - we let it out and have had a great first season - made s small profit even tho it is all on mortgage love it best thing we have ever done -- altho we have to put up with a cramped house here

NoWayNoHow · 02/05/2012 20:34

If we're talking dream 2nd house in that budget, I have a list!!!

This and this and this!!

jen127 · 03/05/2012 13:52

Blimey Fitflop - that location is stunning. But so bleak and windy in winter I bet.

I think my ideal would be closer to the SE than most of these.

OM good G at the Tuscany one's views. I could just sit there all day gazing out of a lounger.

I want that house in loch lomond!!

Abzs · 04/05/2012 11:36

Googlenut, so does everyone. Which is why I'd want to be north of Ullapool...

MadameChinLegs · 04/05/2012 11:43

I'd love a city house in York for £600k

Or a beautiful home on Sandbanks with some serious re-decoration needed inside, a snip at £7.5mil

whydoesitalwaysrainonme · 04/05/2012 14:45

Sorry Jen, somehow I didn't click through to the Loch Lomond one. It is lovely indeed! I would want to paint some of those white walls though as it looks a bit cold and unwelcoming given it's in Scotland so won't be tropical weather on a regular basis! Beautifully-decorated generally though.
