Can we play property porn for second homes?

Imagine you had £400k or £500k, where would you buy?

Not after the pros and cons of second home ownership or the issues of pricing locals out as it isn't me buying.

If it were I'd quite fancy somewhere rural, secure, cute little towns nearby for coffee shops and then a larger town/ nice small city, such as Bath or Cambridge.

Mind you if we're doing total fantasy we could just push the budget up to a few million Grin and a helicopter to whizz us around.

MadameChinLegs does that £7.5 million include relocating it to its natural habitat in New England?

MadameChinLegs · 04/05/2012 20:17

hahah, it is a bit copycat usa, but I do rather like it Blush

Seb1, there are loads of stunning houses round the edges of Nethy Bridge. I stay there every winter with a Scout group and always have property envy about something.

BarnMummy · 04/05/2012 20:24

I like this in Grantown on Spey - 6 bedrooms for £475k!!

Abzs · 04/05/2012 20:26

Oh lovely! Right, stuff Nethy Bridge, all that AND Grantown's got an alright chipper.

BarnMummy · 04/05/2012 20:35

Oh I shall look out for the chipper on my way past in July! Can't see anything I really like in Lossiemouth which would be my preferred location really!

jen127 · 04/05/2012 21:07

Nethy Bridge is a gorgeous house!

neverstandonlego · 04/05/2012 21:48

oh my - I like the look of this myself:
www.thelakesbyyoo.com/]] although they probably won't look so lovely in 20 years time compared to a period house.

seb1 · 04/05/2012 21:48

Yes but Nethy Bridge has a chippy van once a week, the Nethy Bridge house used to a hotel where you could have a lovely meal.

I love the assynt plot Abzs. Dp is currently working out the exact plot size :)

Abzs · 04/05/2012 22:17

Curses, Ungratefulchild.

But not actually in our reality any time soon. Especially not with all the time DH is spending looking at this. Like that's gonna happen...

Ungratefulchild · 04/05/2012 22:21

Our dream is really Coigach, but there is never anything for sale in Achnahaird (our first choice) and Achiltibuie etc is hideously expensive with crappy plots. I love Assynt too. Proper wilderness.

jaquelinehyde · 04/05/2012 22:22

this would do me

whydoesitalwaysrainonme · 04/05/2012 22:47

Oh Jaqueline that is my perfect house. I would have to repaint those kitchen cupboards though - what were they thinking with purple? Also the black striped wallpaper over the fireplace.
But other than that it's utterly gorgeous.
Wonder if I can scrape enough together from dc's piggy banks?

Love the South African ones, I could live in Tamboerskloof or Hout bay easily. We had a friend lived in Hout bay, in an apartment with the most stunning view.
