2 plans for a kitchen - which is better?

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 19:38

They are on my profile 2 floorplans and 4 views of each

DH would like to watch telly while washing up - I don't like to wash up so I'm in the mood to appease him

But the other one is better isn't it?

Can you improve either at all? Do I have to go conventional?

Help me please?

Do you mean that no.2 is better? I agree. The position of the sink in no.1 is unusual and just looks a bit odd imo. But then it's your house and you can plan it how you like to suit individual preferences.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 09/02/2012 19:43

The second option. Is there a reason that you aren't using the wall that has the door into the rest of the house?

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 19:47

It has a 1.8m french window in it

I'm all conflicted

I thought there was a glass window behind the table, is there one the other side, as it shows a wall in your pics?

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 19:51

It's a corridor, I forgot to put the other window in

There is my lounge which had french doors on to a patio, which became a conservatory, which I'd now like to move my kitchen into

So I have 1.8m french windows at one end to the lounge & 1.2m french windows and 2 windows at the other

Can you do some pics on the profile? Personally I am a visual person so struggling with your description with jls and kids dancing around.

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:02

Tricky it's full of cots & toys atm

I'll have a go

you have to walk around the opposite side of the island to load the diswasher/wash up from your food prep area and cooker in kitchen 1

doesn't make a lot of sense to me

I would normally keep a peninular island unit as worktop as they allow much more flexible space than if you fill them up with a sink etc

FaithHopeAndKevin · 09/02/2012 20:04

The first one is stupid- if you want to use the sink while cooking, you'll have to walk all the way around. MADNESS.

LaVitaBellissima · 09/02/2012 20:06

I prefer kitchen 1

Also wanted to say how lovely the photo's of your DH & DD dancing are Smile

jenrendo · 09/02/2012 20:07

With kitchen 1 the immediate thing that I focussed on was the weird way that the sink unit jutted out and wasted that little space in front of it. It just seems odd and doesn't flow. Kitchen 2 is better :)

workshy · 09/02/2012 20:07

also on kitchen 1 it looks like you only have a 700mm gap between your cooker and the edge of the peninsular unit which I wouldn't be comfortable with

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:20

Very odd photos on now

2 is loads better, but you know that - it's the fact that you want to make your DH happy that's the problem!

Can he see that on paper it doesn't work? Does he want it anyway?

If the sink was going on the peninsula it would probably look better if it was set under or cut into the worktop, I think. Less mess, too.

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:26

I guess so

Dh Grrr

I was kind of hoping for some kind of innovative miracle that would fix it

OP posts:
EverybodysSnowyEyed · 09/02/2012 20:26

sorry but it has to be no 2

a sink is used for more than just washing up and it is going to be a real pain. You are also increasing the chance of things breaking by slipping off. and then there's the mess from the water splashing!

Can't you introduce him to the pleasures of radio?

AllPastYears · 09/02/2012 20:27

2 is better. If you have 1, any water splashes from the washing up will dribble down the back of the units.

Mind you, I'm not that keen on either - they are a bit disjointed and the sink is too far from the hob I think, so you will end up doing a lot of walking backwards and forwards across the kitchen.

EverybodysSnowyEyed · 09/02/2012 20:28

where is the TV going?

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:29

Opposite the table on an arm - it looks like a picture when you see it

OP posts:
TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 09/02/2012 20:29

I defiantly think the more open option two.

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:30

The pictures didn't help then Mouse?

OP posts:
EverybodysSnowyEyed · 09/02/2012 20:32

Radio 4 it is then!

KatyMac · 09/02/2012 20:33

I am not washing dishes even if I can listen to Radio 4 Grin

pooka · 09/02/2012 20:36

Don't you have a dishwasher though?
